So I just received my Gottfried messer from landsknecht emporium and I hate how it feels.. The way it handles just doesn’t feel right and it feels extensively forward heavy. I’m pretty sure it’s because of the knuckle bow and I’m debating just sanding it down some to see if that improves the feel. As you can see it’s pretty damn thick. Would this make sense to do or would I just be ruining the sword?

Reducing mass in the area where you grip the messer probably doesn't make it less blade heavy. Rather the opposite. Thinning the foible probably does. You can use magnets and little steel/iron weights to add some ounces here and there and change where they stick to find out what could help. Nevertheless a knuckle guard on a longer messer looks a bit wrong to me (or at any messer, I know they existed, I just don't like them).

That makes a lot of sense and honestly I’m probably going to either sale or trade this messer, I hate I waited so long for it just to not like it but it is what it is. Thanks for the help!

I agree with Andi. Judging from what I did with a sabre when reducing the foible was a lot of work and while reducing the weight so little me scales couldn’t tell the difference it did improve the handling and moved the PoB back only ⅛”. I don’t see the point of the knuckle bow either and looks out of place. I don’t see any pins or rivets in the grip. Are the scales just glued on? If you do any modifying it may make it hard to trade or sell.
