hey guys! new here but been looking around and finally ready to buy my first sword. I'm looking and the 12th century Teutonic arming sword from Balaur arms caught my eye. in your experience is this a decent company and sword? reading it looks like its decent but have seen reviews where quality control is a little hit or miss. I know for the price range you shouldn't expect perfection which I'm fine with. i plan on using this pretty moderately for cutting so I don't expect a perfect piece for displaying. Is this a good sword to start from in your opinion and any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

The Balaur line at KoA are good swords. I have several. I will probably be pre-ordering some of the LK Chen / Balaur swords.

1st gen Balaur - Single edged Viking Ballinderry Viking Templar Arming Sword 15th Century Arming Sword Italian Longsword and matching dagger pattern-welded seax
2nd gen Balaur (Windlass) - 14th Century Longsword
3rd gen Balaur (LK Chen) - 15th Century German Longsword
only defects - 1) common defect that people who ordered the Windlass made 13-14th Century Longsword received the 14th Century Longsword instead (but I liked it enough to not try to swap it for the one I ordered)
2) the pattern-welded seax has a few spots with bad welds or cracks between the layers. I don't think it would stand up well to hard use, but probably appears more historically accurate as a result. This type of defect doesn't occur on their monosteel blades.

I'm pretty darn sure that the current teutonic sword is the 2nd gen Windlass version. I don't think they ever restocked with the original manufacturer after they sold out the first time.
I've got the 1st gen single edged viking sword and 2nd gen Windlass Italian longsword. I like them both but the Italian is a little too flexible for my taste to be a truly excellent sword. I wish I was able to get the LK Chen version when they popped up but oh well.

ok awesome. thanks so much for the replies guys its really appreciated. as my first sword i do plan on using it fairly moderately so appreciate all the replies as im totally new to this but have been trying to do my fair share of reading before diving in. from what i can gather seems like balaur is a decent brand at this low price point. eventuallly will get into higher swords but wanting to dip my toes in first.
sounds like balaur is decent then?

I recommend KoA’s sharpening service if buying a dull blade from them. It does add a secondary bevel to the blade, but is well done in my opinion. Mine have been sufficiently sharp for my backyard cutting.

yep thankfully i did. Placed the order with the sharpening service and hopefully dont receive one with any issues besides whats to be expected at this low price point.
