Hello!
Been a lurker for a year or two, posted a bit here and there. Just found this board, so I guess I should put something here as a sort of official intro.
Name's Erin (he/she), but I go by Monty online. I hail from Ottawa, Ontario, capital of the cold Northern wastes of Canada. I'm 18, and taking a breather year of sorts to get a better look at some universities.
Was super into ancient history as a kid and throughout my school years, and want to make its study my career. Got into weapons and warfare in and around later 2020, with a main interest in China and Japan, that extends from both my background as a Chinese Canadian with Japanese relatives and my current future goal of obtaining a degree in archaeology.
Aside from weapons, I'm also into cars (muscle and JDM, I dabble in Euro), epic movies (gotta have a massive, bloody, drawn-out battle scene somewhere or I ain't watchin' it), and music (proud owner of a Selmer Paris Super Action 80 alto). No martial arts training, but looking into it.
Currently own my two swords: a simple katana from a random Chinese site, horrible fit-and-finish but a somewhat respectable 1045 blade (who could forget the acid etched hamon), as usual, and a nicer Dynasty Forge Bushi Tri-Steel kat with a bad polish (can't see the hamon), but still cuts like a dream. Don't have the budget for the nicer stuff, but am saving up right now for when that time comes.
Anyways, I've received so much great advice from people here already, which I'm super grateful for! I look forward to many great years to come with you all!
