Mods, please feel free to move or remove if this is not appropriate.
If you receive a message from user "ther457," you should report, delete, and ignore.
They just tried to offer me a sword (not theirs) at a too-good-to-be-true price. Of course, requested F/F PayPal without any buyer protections.
How do I know they are a scammer/liar?
The idiot sent me pictures of said sword taken from one our own member collections threads on SBG.
Beware!

I was kind of hoping you were going to say he sent you pictures of your own sword.

I was kind of hoping you were going to say he sent you pictures of your own sword. I had that happen to me with a Pakistani knife maker on Facebook. Sent me a pic of my own damn work LOL

I am now trying to offer 'alternative services' to ther457 in exchange for the sword his third party friend has. Its a sting operation--I do not actually plan to trade my body to him for a sword he does not have, but my inner troll cannot resist.

Hey! So, I'm kinda new at this and actually want to sell two of my swords (I posted them a while ago). How do I make sure that the PayPal transaction is secured, both for me and for the buyer. I don't want to be taken for a scammer and I only ever used PayPal to pay for stuff, never to sell something. Some beginners pointers would be much appreciated

I see you have a WTS ad with lots of photos and a proof of ownership photo, that is a great start. If using paypal, use the "Goods and Services" option. This will have an additional fee but offers buyer protection from scammers. For both party's protection, ship insured. If the buyer claims the item is not as stated in a way that could have resulted from shipping damage, you can claim the insurance.
Proving problems to either company in either case may cause serious headaches, but better to have options than not.

Tera, I realize that at the low point swords sell for (relativity) buyers think that PayPay goods and services is great. For swords, I don't mind it. But for high end items like watches few sellers will accept it. Basically, there is NO protection for the seller and scams abound where the buyer is the scammer. I sold and purchased here and My Armoury for years and the worse I got was a couple of not well described swords. It's sad that this permeating our community. But don't think that PayPay G&S protects anyone but the buyer as that is who they are set up to protect.

and now you get a damn 1099 form from the IRS if you make ONE SWORD SALE.

Lonely wolf is right. PP goods and services is starting to report your sales as income to the IRS. I've been selling and buying for numerous years and don't take G&S very often. This forum seems to be targeted by scammers. I never found so many people complaining about scams over at My Armoury.

This is why I only buy from one member of this forum, SamScam666 don't trust anyone else. Been buying from him for years now. Can't wait until my orders start coming in.

since no one can create a new account on MyArmoury, that does help keep scammers out
(also keeps the prospective new members out)
