I've been a fan of the knives Tauriel carries in the Hobbit Desolation of Smaug and after watching a behind the scenes talk about them from the guys at Weta they said they designed her knives on the Kukri knife which to me is my absolute all time favorite weapon I had to have a pair made. I contacted Wes about doing them and he said no problem and so here we go with some in progress of the blades.

They look terrific so far. I've been wanting to see a good reproduction of these. Is Wes going to attempt to execute the lattice work with the negative space? I think they're really impractical to make.

No unfortunately not, we need to make it similar but not too similar to avoid copyright etc.. so we are just doing the blade shape and not doing the lattice work side on top of the blade, so it'll be enough of a difference to not draw attention but you'll see enough to say hey that's Tauriel's knives.

Even if copyright issues were not a concern, the lattice work just seems to me to be a pure fantasy elements and not a practical design feature. One could get the same effect with etching or inlay, but I think it's best left out. So good call there.

Here we have the finished pieces, all that is left to complete is the scabbards for them. I'll get stats on them from Wes shortly.

These turned out so well! They look nice and light too. I'd very much like to see some specs on these when you get them.
