Queen Elizabeth II has died. God save the King! God bless her and her family! So ends an amazing life dedicated to service and duty. My condolences to all of our UK forum members. She led by example always and was an inspiration to me and so many others...

My condoences to her friends and family. That said, I have nothing but disdain for the institution of royalty/nobility. We are all the same breed of stinky, balding up-jumped chimp.

She was a fine Queen, and will be missed. My condolences to the British royal family, and my sympathies to the Commonwealth Realms.

Presided over a vast historical arc, from old to modern age.

Her reign began the same year my dad was born, crazy. Condolences to the family but I do agree with Mr. Hydra, modern monarchies just confound me. That said, I do wish the best for our friends across the pond.

There was a time in history, long ago when limited resources, education and the sheer barbarity of the world made a monarchy / feudalism the only system that worked and allowed society to develop. That monarchy in England produced what was probably the very first statement of citizens rights in history with Maga Carta 800 years ago. From that, the English successfully evolved from a absolute monarchy in the middle ages into the parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy that exists today and has not only worked well for its people well but became a model and inspiration for most of the first world to develop their own forms of democracy. Does the modern world need monarchies? Just as thousands of years ago, I think it depends on the capabilities of the people to self govern. Not all can or want to do it.

I wonder how soon Charles III monogrammed British and other Commonwealth Realms officer's swords will be getting sold?

I'm fairly certain the British royalty are purely ceremonial at this point.

Yes sad to hear, definitely one of most respected figureheads of the 20th century. For WWII to the turn of the century. Sad to hear but she did good keeping in such health and ability well into her 90s.

She was an icon that seemed to be always with us, and always would be. But time catches all of us eventually. As far as royalty goes, she was a proverbial "good Queen" and will be missed.

I know she served in the British war effort during WWII. I believe as an ambulance driver. RIP In February 1945, she was appointed an honorary second subaltern in the Auxiliary Territorial Service with the service number of 230873. She trained as a driver and mechanic.

I wonder how many of the patients she transported ever found out that they were driven to hospital by the future Queen of England. Makes for a good story.
