Soo I discovered mineral oil is very bad for leather. I tended to get some of it onto my hilt and scabbard when oiling the metal. Is there a way to make sure the excess oil won't damage the leather? Conditioning it when I can?
I only oiled the sword 3 times yet.
It is also stored in the scabbard, awaiting a proper support on the wall

It's new soo there's no current sign. I didin't pour oil directly on it, only the absorbant wipe brushing on the leather at the edge of the metal, wipes most of it away afterward ehen removing excess oil. But probably missed some. Done trice.

most of the leathers are treated/sealed already (I use Angelus flat/matte 4-coat, or spray polyurethane on grips I have fixed up or have re-dyed...but I am not sure of the durability of the coating with long term cutting)
^prob still too much oil if it is beading. Ive found mobil 28 grease works best for me (edc and more)

Some people have used mineral oil(Baby oil minus fragrance) for bathing khukuri(Scabbard and all) as a maintenance technique. I don't think you will have a problem, bro. A video showing it, for reference. Look at about 3:55 into the video.
I agree. Ballistol is commonly used on leather (e.g. rifle slings) and its base is mineral oil.

But talking about mineral oils, my great value one tend to bead up after aplication and wiping? you should only put a super thin layer of oil on your blade, so light that you don't even see it. I use a clean tissue with some oil on it to clean the old oil off, then wipe it down with 91% isopropyl, let it fully dry and then I use a microfiber cloth with some oil in it (but not saturated) and wipe it evenly on the cleaned blade. I then take a new clean tissue and give another light wipe. there's also a difference in mineral oils. look for light mineral oil, with no other additives. usually in the skin care/beauty section. or try some camellia oil, it's light and thin and works very well.

The mineral oil I have is 99.9% heavy. I clean my blade using a yellow sponge and some windex (no name brand), wiped with the leather chamois (microfiber release polluting fibers, soo went for a leather alternative) and then use some absorbant wipe to spread all over the blade, crossguard, hilt ring and pommel. Then wipe with another absorbant wipe, but i could switch to another of my chamois if that's preferable. And doing some dry swing outside with cotton/polyester glove not enough to warrant a washing/take off enough oil to warrant so? (glove rub on the ring and agains't the bottom of the hilt)

Mineral oil has a drying effect on leather and over time may affect the leather. But I certainly would not hit the panic button. I would try to avoid doing so in the future and the leather conditioners that you should be applying should be sufficient. Being new should be OK.

Think I might go and switch with ballistol, since it's leather safe as I heard. The mineral oil I got give quite the application issues too, alway seem like it either beads or was fully wiped away.
