Scotch Brite pads are a good route to a satin finish. They come in a wide range of colors to denote the abrasiveness. I think you are looking for grey to get a satin finish here's a grit chart - www.thetonerooms.com/threads/scotchbrite-grit-chart.3674/Mineral oil or Renaissance Wax will also be good for wood & leather. Ren Wax is best applied to warm metal.

no images, but the light grey (600-800) will be a satin finish. Mirror polish requires 1500 or higher.

I don't know if consumer green = industrial green. If it the same as the industrial green (at 600 grit) it should work fine. Do you have a scrap of moderately hardened steel to test it on?
