Hi, I just brought my first sword, a windlass classical bastard sword. And the following items : mother's mag and alluminium "wax" leather chamoi (over microfiber due to tought toward microfiber pollution) yellow/green scrubbing sponges and a large green scrubbing pad mineral oil (in the laxative bottle) 60/40 coton and polyester glove, cleaning and handling.
and there's a handfull of other items I could find in the home.
Iv seen a handfull of videos about maintenance and would like to build one united guide I can use for myself (others welcome to try too) but I didin't see much videos about sword finishes and would like to try to replaced the factory mirror finish with a satine one or another existing kind of finish I didin't hear.
Sword will be used for backyard cutting and dexterity trought handling/swing practice.
edit : still looking for how to properly give a satin/brushed finnish to my mirrored sword.

Im also looking for wood/leather care yep it does, but if not applied correctly, it can cause air bubbles that rust will thrive in. What state do you live in btw? im in pa and have used ballistol on my swords and left them for a year and they havent rusted

Also i like the smell of ballistol lol. you dont need to slather it, just spray it on and give it a good wipe. Another option is choji oil, which is much more expensive but smells way better.

Choji isin't mineral + abit of clove?
btw, I alway read the term "light mineral oil" but my bottle of mineral oil read [99% mineral oil (heavy)] Is that any sort of issue?

i dont have any experience using mineral oil. You could also use motor oil but that will smell worse than ballistol

What would you recommend for leather and wood care? My scabbard is leather and hilt is leather wrapped wood.

Any leather moisturizer should work Do I just put raw linseed oil in a bucket and dip the hilt in there (for how long?) and il find some leather moisturizer. The oil won't do anything to wrong to the leather, except kinda making it oily t'il wiped?

My main issue is the wood is under the leatherwraps. then it shouldnt be an issue. I would just focus on conditioning the leather if its dry
