yep that hamon is real. or it might be acid etched Oh, you're sure? You can't see it in the pictures and you have to get it in the right light but there are tiny scratches leading away from the hamon to the edge of the blade, that and the repeating smudge pattern made me sure it was wirebrushed. I however have very little experience on these matters.

ALso they probably put a cosmetic yokote on it, hence the scratches

Thank you very much for your insight by the way.

Well looks like I’m late to the party here. Seems I just answered this question over on Reddit. Yes it’s a real hamon. I have this sword. Bought it at the MRL annual sale in 2019. My first DF sword. Was, and still is missing the fuchi. Got it for a great price. First katana I ever held with an hourglass tsuba. I like mine.

Ah yes I think I remember your comment, I'll tell you the thing that bugs me the most, the pattern on the hamon repeats itself half way up the blade and it's not like it's similar it's identical, both sides do this which leads me to believe it's been stenciled. Unless that's explainable through using a genuine clay temper?

Clay can be stenciled, too. With enough control/luck in the heating and quenching, it's possible to have perfectly uniform, even repeating patterns in a hamon. I wouldn't generally expect this from a cheaper sword, but one never knows.
Your blade looks differentially hardened to me.

Ah ok I didn't know that, that was the main red flag for me, all other signs point to it being a genuine hamon so I guess it probably is then. That's good to know thank you, in hindsight after researching a bit more I'm pretty sure I could have gotten more sword for what I paid, I do however really love the saya on this one so I'm happy. Thank you again.
