First time buying a custom, so bear with me... Does he use the same dimensions and proportions as the original when he makes duplicates? I realize it's hand made and there will be differences, but from the pics he sent it looks like my blade may be quite a bit shorter than the original. It could be the angle, I don't know, and if he's using the same template I'm sure it's pretty close. But I just thought I'd ask.
The proportions look pretty comparable to me from this photo from the first page: Yeah I guess it depends on what photo you're looking at. Just thought I'd ask... no harm in inquiring. I'm sure he's a professional and knows what he's doing. What's the original blade length? Never mind... found it. 11.125"

It should be the same template. It should be about 11 inches in blade length. Cool! Thanks for the info!

The pics Purna sent do NOT do it justice. The buffalo horn is amazingly detailed and figured and the blade just perfect. Copper fittings are tight and.... Just look at it! This will NOT be the last piece I get from Purna!

Uh oh, he's got the taste for customs now. Say goodbye to the production pieces! Yeah....not good! It's definitely an issue. I spend a lot of time thinking of designs for custom pieces. It's fun to stimulate one's creativity and collaborate with an artist. It's not always perfect and is often frustrating, but it's been very rewarding for me so far.

As soon as I saw it, it rang all my bells. It just drips Gothic style and looks badass! So glad I made the leap.

I'm personally partial to black creamy horn and copper myself 😁 (because most or my stuff are rosewood and brass actually 😅) But truly, polished horn looks so much like jewelry to me.

Guys the review of these two daggers are coming next Friday. I’ve done some penetrative testing and even cutting test to put it through its paces. Suffice to say the results exceeded my expectations!

I took a close-up look at two daggers designed by Brother Nathaniel and made by Purna Darnal, and put them through their paces by stabbing them into 8mm thick leather on top of pork shoulder, and an arming cap. The penetration is quite impressive. Though intended to be a fantasy design, it is obviously inspired by some of the late 15th century medieval rondel daggers, featuring a slender 11.5-inch-long blade with a thick diamond cross section, but also incorporating a leaf shape on the blade with a broadening section at 2/3 of the blade length to widen the wound once the tapered tip enters the target. It also features a ricasso with two notches decorated with grooves and a copper-inlaid cross. The conical shaped writhen grip is also inspired by some late medieval rondel and bollock daggers, and the cross section below the s-guard (partially inspired by some Landsknecht sword and dagger hilt though it's only half instead of fully enclosed) is oval instead of cylindrical for edge alignment. The pommel is decorated with hand-carved rose pattern and heart-shaped perforations. One of the two daggers have buffalo-horn grip and the fittings are made of copper, while the other one has rosewood grip and brass furniture. Both features pronounced a good amount of taper while the one with the brass and copper has more pronounced taper. The horn and copper hilt dagger weighs 1 lb 1 oz while the wood and brass one weighs 14.5 oz. To my surprise, even though the thick and narrow blade are obviously thrust and stab centric, a casual snap cut on naked flesh still cause a wound 2" deep and 5" wide--a testament to the leaf-shaped blade profile. If you are interested in commission one of these as your own, or have certain components customized (e.g. having a more traditional rondel dagger blade), please contact Brother Nathaniel (The Levin Lance) on Facebook: www.facebook.com/NateSilor SBG Forums: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/user/46191The blacksmith's website: www.greatgurkhakhukuri.com/

The penetration is quite impressive. I've been waiting to see these badboys in some steel-on-meat events and I wasnt disappointed. The penetration was impressive, the snapcut surprising, the execution on the design is pretty tight & the commentary held my interest. (The 'snake devouring itself' motif being of interest, dontcha know...) Thanks for another great vid! Id be very wary of the Seeker who was packing one of these in their off-hand.

These are thinner and more stabby than I first thought, and I think better. Still unbreakable, but lighter with greater penetration ability, and you could probably modify the design to the point of having a workable edge put on it.

Yeah the narrow yet thick daggers (with reinforced tips) specialized in penetration depth tests are not great at opening wider wounds. Well as good as this, but if we only worry about the depth, they are kings.
