I been practicing digital art a little this year, but for the first time, I realized I could be drawing swords. I dunno why that thought never got to me. I'll use this thread to upload my designs

First design is my rendition of the biggorons sword. I imagine the wings of the guard to be kinda like an I beam, to save weight, flat in the inner parts, with a lip on the outside, with the swords tang going through the "coin" covered Area, the coin being made of copper or brass and welded on. The wrap is suede, to maintain the tribal look of it

Did a master sword. Not any reason for it, as it's not really a whole lot different then Brendens design. But I'll probably add variations as time goes on

Thanks for looking man, I finally drew a monster and a dude who is about to battle it. I dunno what the story is and it doesn't quite fit with the lodge lore, I don't think, but art has began

That last one, particularly the handle, I think looks best.

That last one, particularly the handle, I think looks best. That one is my fav too. It looks comfy to hold. I imagine a nice springy but slightly stiff blade 😎 I'm wondering what I should draw next 🤔

Cool designs man. Are you going to actually forge these one day? I've never made a sword. Just knives only one of which I still have. I "drew" the designs in my head and then go to hammering and grinding. The one I still have I made to pair with my tomahawk. It's a beast of a clip point Bowie. People who don't know blades tend to think design is easy. It ain't but I'm not telling you any secret there. I want to start a sword here pretty soon. Not sure exactly what genre I'm looking to do but I do know it won't be Japanese. I'm leaning toward a nice clean simple yet elegant fantasy broadsword. Not a Conan sword. Maybe something similar to a Saxon or Danish blade. Made for battle. I've made quite a bit of stuff knife and tomahawk wise and none of it was merely decorative. Even if I knew that decoration was all any of it was going to be used for I made it for real. Just a decoration piece is to easy. I want to heat treat harden sharpen and make something solid as a rock if I'm going to make anything at all. A lot (most) of my pieces were given to family members as Christmas Birthday or just because gifts. It's more fun and more satisfying than going shopping. Knives tomahawks and spears I've made but never a sword. I dig your drawings. They look sweet.

Perhaps I'll post more too I considered either buying the pieces individually and customizing them, such as getting a Hanwei Tinker bare blade and taking a Dremel to it or even getting things cast. The guard and pommel I would seriously considering either casting myself or taking a Dremel to some softer metal like brass or aluminum, or even mild steel if I'm feeling like putting in the effort. For now tho it's mostly just designs. Maybe I'll redesign some swords I've seen in video games and movies, but to be honest, I haven't been playing a whole lot of games and almost all the swords I find in media look like cr*p to me (not to say mine are objectively better) 😂 I am a whole lot less interested in redesigning them than I thought I would be when I made this thread I used to love designing swords, and assumed I still would, but I think it's because I actualy had prospects of actually having them made, so in a sense, I was planning out some custom pieces I want made But to be honest, I have been feeling that DIY craving coming up again, thanks to the customization threads on this forum

I've modified ("customized" if you will) a couple of existing swords I've had come my way. Like the Musashi with the diamond plate tsuba I gave my son. How did you describe that? "Apocolyptic" was it? haha. It does have a sort of dystopian tribal look to it. I totally rebuilt the entire tsuka with that one in addition to the tsuba. It's hard to stop once I start. Worse than cigarettes. When I do decide to do a total sword build I'll probably start from scratch. Go back and get another leaf spring out of the old Chevy I got the one to make my Bowie with. I don't have access to my forging gear right now. My torches, grinders hammers anvil all of it is stored with my son. I did tell him to feel fee to set it all up and use it. He lives about an hour away from where I'm at ight now so it's not just a run down the street. If I go there for workspace (which I probably will) I'm going to make it at the bare minimum a three day weekend. With 8-10 hours a day at the forge. And several hundred gallons of lemonade. My mystery scratch and dent sword box will be here tomorrow if the river don't rise. Could be I'll wind up with something good worth some customization. I'm anxious to see what they send me. Just hope it's not an anticlimactic thing. Being all primed up and wind up with a couple wall hangers. That would suck.

Man, imagine a diamond plate tsuba with an injected molded handle or even just micarta scales. It would look wicked I used to be interested in trying to forge a sword, but it seems like such a complex art, I would only ever wanna do knifes, maybe long knives at most. But what has interested me lately is armour making. If I could make my own steel armour I would be so happy Anything you post that you make, feel free to link me to it. I am pretty into DIY stuff, it gives me ideas

I am pretty into DIY stuff, it gives me ideas Heres a pic of the Bowie fighter I made to team with a hawk. The knife with it I can't take credit foe making but I did find it tossed out in my desert inside an old truck toolbox. I ran the markings on it through Military Collectables And in the shape it's in it's worth twixt 200-300 bucks. It's a MK 2 US Navy Ka Bar made somewhere between 1943 to 1945. Whoever threw that box out paid me well to clean up their mess. As mentioned the Bowie is made from a leaf spring out of a 1950s era Chevy Apache pickup. I don't actually know for sure what manner of spring steel it is but I'm assuming 5160. The tang and spine up to the false edge clip point is just a hair shy of 1/4 inch thick. She's a chunky girl. Flat bevel starting about an inch or so give or take from spine to edge. To be honest when I hammered it out I didn't know squat about edge geometry COP and all that. I just built a mental picture based on other designs added some personal refinements (or modifications anyway) and this was the result. I've had that knife for 20 years. My blade knowledge was in it's infancy. Newborn actually. I'm going to take it apart and ditch that SS bolster and make one out of brass. Same with the pins and I believe I'll add a cross guard. The latter I think I'll hammer out of an old file. Come o think of it I could do hat with the bolster as well. Do a folded steel outfit. The bare blade is going into a hydrochloric acid bath and getting an oil and vinegar (red vinegar and olive oil puts a really cool black color to the steel) That's what I did with that diamond plate tsuba. The handle I just love. It's teak. It came out of a busted up little end table that I also found chucked in my desert. It's tough stuff. Was fun to carve I'll tell ya. I actually used my smaller bench grinder to get the basic shape. I think you may be onto something with that diamond plate tsuba paired with micarta or maybe G 10. That would look tough and be tough. Real 21st century Samurai looking. Or dystopian future American with an original design blade. More broadsword than katana. There's a project you could draw up. That would be awesome wicked fun to design and build.

Yea i wouldn't mind trynna give that sorta design a go. If I can find a creative way to get an angle to show that diamond plate tsuba I'd be in business 😎

Yea i wouldn't mind trynna give that sorta design a go. If I can find a creative way to get an angle to show that diamond plate tsuba I'd be in business 😎 You got me thinking about it now. I lay in bed last night dreaming stuff up in my head for blade and fitting design. Shapes for guards/tsubas, handle configuration, pommel adornments all that fun stuff. When I get back on two solid feet and can stand at my anvil swinging a hammer I do believe I am so on it. Your design hobby is inspiring me. That hawk is an exercise in repurposing. The head is a sheetrock hatchet. I'm going to forge another head eventually or modify a hammer back roofing ax with a wider copping face. I like the hammer back not just for looks but because it comes in handy in camp. Pounding tent stakes and the like and the hatchet face take care of fire wood. The old plumb bob on the butt was just a wild hair I got. Figured wth, if I don't like it I can always take it off. But me likey. In addition to it's combat potential it's quite utilitarian. Breaking up hard ground for a fire pit or latrine probing tasks whatever its called upon to do. It goes with me hunting camping fishing whatever. I am going to make a "sheath" for it though. Something to cover that sharp tip.
