"He came from further east than any thought the world reached with many stories of beasts encountered and bested on his way. Upon hearing of the wyverns prowling deep within our forests he requested his arms remade so he might slay them. Having but his descriptions our smith did his best to make what he needed for his quest"
This is a set I made freely mixing and matching styles and construction methods from different periods and places of the world
The larger sword started with a blade shaped in the form of the norwegian viking age single edged swords but felt it would need a long grip for powerful cuts against the scaly beasts. As nothing is truly new under the sun the overall proportions ended up being quite similar to the chinese miao dao
127cm overall length and weighing in at 1720grams,
pob is 10cm in front of the guard.
The blade is pattern welded in the Viking era style,

3 15 layer twisted bars on the back while the edge is a bar of 240 layers
Guard is brass and horn and the grip is leather sewn over cord bound wooden core

the scabbard is made to be worn edge side up and being lefthanded myself I wanted to make it in such a way that it could be worn on either side by placing the seam on the side. That did give me a lot more surface area for tooling and chose to do it in a more medieval style with various species of dragons and wyrms
The smaller blade or wakiseax continues the mix of styles with a seax themed scabbard, viking era pattern welding on the blade, a little hint of vendel in the sandwich constructed guard while having the quite distinctive overall shape of a small wakizashi
