Awesome, I'm not alone! I agree about boxing, it's been much more interesting for me as well lately. Tyson fury has had some crazy fights, that guy is a machine I've done a little bit muay Thai, but I always wanted to find myself a traditional school after watching my dojo compete against them. They were wicked powerful My trainers came from the Fairtex gym in San Francisco when Alex Gong, Jongsanan, and Bunkerd were teaching there so I got a good bit of Muay Thai in me, plus I've done deep dives into the sport over the last few decades. I'm also a big fan of Dutch Kickboxing and was lucky to get some training from Ramon Dekkers and Andy Souwer. You got to work with The Diamond?! Man that must have been awesome!

Ya he came to the States and did a seminar in The Bay Area where I'm at. It was amazing to see him move in person. I learned a lot, especially with his progressive combination system with rhythm breaks and a lot of strikes coming off the same side. Very difficult combinations to read when being thrown at you. This was a year before he died so I was super lucky.
The Andy Souwer one was great as well. He's 2x K-1 MAX champion and has fought everyone. Very high energy style with a lot of feints and combinations to low kick. Super nice guy in person too. I was a bit intimidated by Dekkers ain't gonna lie.
I'm in the Fairtex shirt soaking it up:

What are your guys favourite fighting styles and training regime? Airstrikes followed by artillery barrages.

I can't wait to see some of those Boston Dynamics quadruped robots fitted with light machine guns, and maybe also some "self destruct" claymore mines. I could die happy knowing that I lived long enough to see autonomous terrestrial killbots in action.

As far as my serious opinion on the thread's topic is concerned, after many years of training in an assortment of martial arts, I have come to feel that a striking style rooted in pressure tested body mechanics (e.g. Western boxing and Muay Thai) combined with a grappling style focused on pressure tested body mechanics (e.g. Greco-Roman/freestyle/catch wrestling, judo, and jujutsu) are the most functionally useful unarmed "fighting style." I always seem to circle back around to boxing when it comes to effective striking. It just really can't be touched when it comes optimized body mechanics for delivering and defending against a striking-based opponent (I find that it's very easy to adapt lower body striking techniques to boxing fundamentals). I've also found IRL that judo is surprisingly effective against most resisting (and even martially trained) opponents. Judo is also systematically easy to learn, and fairly commonly available. There are absolutely circumstances where one might need a more comprehensive grappling solution (see BJJ blue belts and above), but the odds of ever needing that degree of grappling skill is pretty low (none of this applies to anyone wanting to seriously compete in MMA professionally). Similarly, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling fills a very similar niche to judo (being very function, easy to learn, and commonly available). There certainly have been times that being able to execute a wrist/finger/toe lock has been an advantageous option, but a well executed hip throw into the unforgiving ground can just as easily end a confrontation, and is usually easier to execute against a resisting opponent.

These days, I just hold five of the blackest belts in the ancient form of Jon-jitsu!
My alter ego is known as the incredible bulk. I just belly bop villains left and right, send them crashing through the dry wall.
Not for the faint of heart.
