This just flashed up to today, surprising me at the speed that it came to my attention. As the title states the USS The Sullivans is sinking. I got a little emotional with the news. I sincerely hope that they can come up with the funds to save her. The ship, a WWII Fletcher Class Destroyer, was named in honour of five brothers all of which died when their cruiser went down.

Your video is coming up unavailable, but I saw the story somewhere earlier. Hull damage they were in port to repair. A real shame; hoping they can salvage it.

It's being dealt with. "Failure is not an option".

Originally when posting the video it stated that the playback was disabled by the video owner, but was watchable on YouTube. Now that is blacked out. I went in to edit my post and it’s back and working if clicking “Watch on YouTube”. If it continues to fail a YouTube search using “The Sullivans is Sinking” will also get it. Sorry guys.

Looking at the sites you posted says that it’s getting coverage. However one site giving specifications states The Sullivans, DD-537 had four 5 inch/38 cal. Guns. Normally that class was armed with 5 such guns. That made that class easy to identify, at least for me. The Fletchers were a common class during WWII, many were built. However destroyers like all ships were continually refitted throughout their careers.

If you check the Wikipedia article, you'll note that the ship was built with five 5-inch guns (as well as a lot more other armament than she has now), but the #3 turret was later removed (this mod usually meant a seaplane catapult was added, however, The Sullivans wasn't on that list), and a 3-inch gun was added somewhere I haven't located on photos yet.

I've been aboard the ship and seen some of the history on her, and she was retrofitted after WWII and a gun removed, if I am recalling correctly, for some new tech thing. It kind of ruins the classic profile!

This video was made less than 24 hours ago. They will be needing people for some time to come and will be an interesting and productive way to spend your vacation.

Thanks for the video links. It's good to see her upright again.
