The Completed Sword
We had some nice sunshine today in the NY Capital region, so I seized the opportunity to take some decent photos in the noonday sun. Thanks to The Levin Lance, aka Brother Nate, for teaching me about cold blueing and for basically be a soundboard for my ideas. I think blueing the blade was the final step to really make all the elements sing. I am all aboard team blue steel!
I am so pleased with this sword. I think it's the best designed sword I own and represents all the esoteric elements about swords that makes me nerd out. It's a fantasy piece, yes, but life is too short to not realize one's fantasies from time to time.
This summer I will make a scabbard, because this sword has a thirst for blood...

Looks absolutely amazing! I'm not a fan of bluing the blade but it really makes the hilt stand out that you did it though. Fantastic job my friend.

Agreed, I usually prefer a plain steel blade finish, but in this case the bluing is definitely the right choice! Wonderful contrast with the yellow brass and red coral.

The goal was to make it look like it came from this comic:

Incredible effort! That bluing doesn't look too over-the-top either. Sometimes even plain steel surfaces would look that way under certain lighting.

Beautiful work! I have concerns about the hilt. To add strength, what about adding a hidden pin? I'd think the best spot might be under the center cabochon. Just overthinking it. Great work, awesome even!

Yes, I had (have) the same concern, but I opted not to add a hidden pin because I decided this sword is a display/art piece more than a functional object. Should the day come when I consider using the sword for cutting, all I would have to do is pop out the center cabochons, drill a hole, add a pin, and set the cabs back in. For now, it's going to be decorative.
I wonder if we do overthink these things a bit, speaking only for myself. I really would want a pin in there if I had to use the sword, but I know that Indian swordsmen from the subcontinent settled for pine tar or pitch to fit the blades onto their tulwar hilts back in the day. That seemed to be enough for them. I think there is a tendency for us folks in the 21st century to want extra security. I can't put my finger on why we think this way, but speaking once again only for myself, I think part of it might derive from a childhood where I had helicopter parents fussing about safety all the time. I couldn't step outside without sunblock, a helmet, and shin guards. I guess I was prepared for battle early.

LOL! Oh...I am a *Galaxy* Level overthinker. But I came at the project from this direction: "What can I fix now to reduce visits from Mr Murphy?" And yes...it's a sickness.

Nice, and it looks a lot better than the Xena replicas I used to see that looked so cheap and comical.
maybe you could insert some small cheap gemstones into the eyes to add some color.
not a huge fan of snakes but the motif does work with the Greek theme
I've always loved the character of Belit. And of course Xena/LucyLawless. Even if I knew the show was ridiculous, she was quite mesmerizing.
