Last week I bought this sword from this store: Penji 1095
It's from Huanuo (Fred Chen) which is, to my understanding, a "side branch" of Dynasty Forge.
Before shipping, I asked the vendor (who was very responsive) to perform a quality control and send me a video of it, which he did.
The video looked a bit dodgy on the saya part but seemed alright overall and I couldn't catch any flaw on the blade.
The box arrived quickly (3 days) and it took just a week to be released by Custom, which is great.
Box was well done, with bubblewrap and additional newspaper around to fill the gaps.
Sword instead, arrived as a mess. The worst I've seen so far.
The koijiri has a dent. Usual unglued shitodome and shoelace sageo.
The saya rattled like hell and the koiguchi was loose.
Habaki has a dent. Samegawa is fake.
The tsuka has a nice shape but the fittings are very poor and muddy. Ito was tight enough. Cheap cotton.
The blade felt decently balanced but had major issues.
As one can see, there are multiple scratches all over the blade, from the kissaki to the habaki.
The hamon is actually genuine and then acid etched (as in Dynasty Forge blades) but in this case the polishing was much worse. On top of that, there is also a missed spot on the ha, shown in 3rd pic.
Considering the cost of this sword (€549 plus shipping), the amount of flaws was way too much to handle, so I sent it back for full refund.
We all know production swords come with some flaws, no matter the price range, it's all expected but this was quite surprising for me.
A sword in this condition shouldn't pass factory check.
What really shocked me was the fact I specifically asked the vendor to do a quality control before shipping. He sent me this.
Meaning he believes it's perfectly fine to sell this thing at full value.
I made this short review to warn whomever is thinking to buy anything from this shop who you are dealing with.
To me, a vendor who does a QC and still send a sword like this at full price doesn't deserve my money. Nor yours.
