Hey All, As you probably know, I'm the vendor selling Printed Armoury parts on behalf of Mike Jia. My real business is Art and Apparel, original designs fusing Celtic/Norse interlace with natural and cultural icons. I was watching a Skallagrim video, and got inspired - he was wearing, or selling, a hoodie with two crossed Albion swords (I think Caithness and Knecht) behind a helmet/mask (probably Sutton Hoo helmet). It got me thinking - wouldn't it be cool to offer apparel printed with Forum members' favorite sword images? There would be some graphic design acrobatics to make images work with the printing medium, but I'd be willing to give it a shot if anyone's interested. We could get really creative, and combine sword(s) with a symbol, coat of arms, etc. Sword graphic running down long sleeves. If there's enough demand, it could be worth systematizing the process. For images of any completely unique swordmaker's designs (i.e. not based on generic or historical examples) I would want to get permission first. Everything is printed in-house in my Bristol, Vermont studio. I use high-quality, full-color laser toner transfers applied with heat press. Comparable in quality to screen printing or DTG printing. Examples of the styles/sizes/colors I stock: rambletree.net/collections/sugar-maplePricing would likely be an additional $5 for the communication and graphic design work. Or - I can create a template/parameters for DIY, Fiverr, etc. What do you think?

Close-up pics of Viking hilts would work especially well, methinks.

Just a thought, but how about having an artist sketch a small selection of famous blades from museum collections? There's more than a few famous blades that would get the job done and you wouldn't have to worry about copyright issues. At least I don't think you would.

A pair of St. Maurice swords would be awesome running down both sleeves.

The sword of St. Maurice has already been suggested. I would also name the sword of El Cid, the two swords attributed to Charlemagne, etc... There's a couple bronze age sword types I would also propose simply for aesthetic beauty.

There are some stock vectors I can buy/license - usually of 'sword timeline/charts' but plenty of other people are already selling that. Yeah, I could probably find some public domain images of iconic swords. The Edward III comes to mind as a 'vibrant' sword. I was thinking Forum members' pics (huh huh, I said 'members pics') would be cool - because they'd be unique and more personal. Perhaps a picture contest? Winner gets a shirt, and the chosen images become stock designs? It's not as simple as slapping a rectangular image on a shirt. Ideally, there's no background, and negative/blank space is part of the design - utilizing the shirt color as part of the design. This helps the print have more flexibility, longevity, and a better 'hand' This can be achieved with Photoshop and Illustrator, which is what I do for my other designs - which start out as drawings. I think I have some experimenting to do . . .

I think a contest is a fine idea. My only concern is that the members who can afford high end customs will stand a better chance of winning because they own the supermodels of swords. That's why I suggested swords in museum collections. They are objects of cultural value to all. They also have an iconic status.

I'm going to start a new thread for 'Famous Swords for T-shirts' or something like that. Was going to do a poll, but it's unclear whether I can add Poll Answers after setting it up initially (I'd like to add options as people make suggestions). Perhaps a running thread, then build a poll based on that to get some data.

Alternatively, some images of reproductions of iconic swords may also be a good idea, and a good compromise. More than a few forum members have high end replicas of iconic swords. Our Brother Nate has some gorgeous images of a replica of the Writhen sword made by Tod. The original is in the Royal Armouries.
