Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

Guess what's on the MRL DOD tomorrow? Nice you going to buy it? Looks like it's finally back in stock if they put it on the deal of the day. Need to get an edge on mine so I can do the follow up review, maybe this week or the next.

It's a good deal, $250 on sale, but I think I'll pass. The review really addressed the weightiness of it and i have enough swords that are dangerous to myself, pets, passers by and low flying birds when I swing them around to scratch that itch.

Understandable, it is on the heavier side and of course we could all use one less impulse buy, lol!

Hi Everybody, Another review I posted this week this one on the Windlass Classic Bastard Sword. Let me know what you guys think! I got this exact sword, as my first sword, waiting for me real soon, im not too much of a fan of the 2/3 bulge on the hilt and the curved crossguard (would have went with a slim handle and straight guard) but it's the best thing I found. Wasan't too interested in sourcing the sword from china from personal reasons even if the hanwei one looked great. But none in stock anyway.

Yea not a fan of the riccasso either but the grip had a nice waist to it which makes it comfortable and the guard will grow on you I think as it is a nice guard. Hopefully you're satisfied with it as a first sword. It definitely will let you know if your more of a warsword or longsword guy based on handling.

Woudln't a bastard sword be inbetween a short/arming and a longsword. Or is it a heafty enough blade to put itself in longsword vs warsword territory? (warsword being inbetween long and greatsword if I got it right?)

(warsword being inbetween long and greatsword if I got it right?) Depends on your terminology amd region. Bastard Sword by more scholarly definition is a later period warsword of the 16th and 17th centuries and is of Italian origin. In more modern and literary terms a bastard sword is a middle sword type between an Arming and longsword also more commonly known as a Hand and a Half Sword. I tend to lean towards the former when I discuss sword types but no one would be wrong in calling a hand and a half sword a Bastard Sword. It can be confusing at times though when comparing both types and calling them the same name. I actually have a video I posted on sword types and my personal terminology if you'd like to check it out,

Much more visual appeal to me (and emotional ha) but none in stock and im boycotting china for reasons. But if any appear in good quality for a good price in second hand market, id absolutedly get my hands on it. Oh, interesting. I myself went this this order, based on lenght/size Short Arming/Broad Bastard/ 1 and half (both are synonym to me) long war great soo the mention of warsword when talking about a bastard was getting me puzzled. My idea to get a bastard was first from the Elden Ring game, beat with the "bastard sword" (which is actually more of a war sword/lower end of greatsword) and Mordhau where I main the bastard. I do myself enjoy the idea of having a one and two hand capable blade. Happen to be that elden ring's big bastard is based on a existing "bastard" (gotta try to refind it again) which is also near-greatsword sized Possible second sword if I can't resist

Nothing is written in stone here, most of those terms were invented centuries after the swords and sometimes changed their meanings. I always plead to see the Hand and a Half swords as a subtype of the Bastard swords, those with a grip length of one hand and a half, so that you have to grip the pommel too when you use the second hand. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_(unit)Probably that's the way Bastard swords developed. Knights on horse wanted longer blades for more reach and oomph which became too unwieldy for single handed use in a fight on foot. Look at the difference between cavalry and infantry sabers. So they wanted longer grips. The longer grips allowed new techniques of two handed use and this worked better with even longer grips. Then they developed in two ways. Some get much bigger blades too and became Great-/Warswords. Some were adapted for techniques which ended in the German "Langes Schwert" school of swordsmanship. And there always existed intermediate types.

Congrats! The photos are difficult to determine much detail. IMO, From your description, though, I expect most of these slight imperfections or minor corrosion to be acceptable at the price range. Sorry, my better phone isin't ready. But I did my first cleaning now.
Set on it's side (supported on two points) I washed with a yellow sponge with windex, followed by a leather chamois drying. Then used the chamois to oil it (bottle spill quickly and mabye not the best idea of using the chamois and not a absorbant paper sheeth) and used a dry section of the chamois to remove excess oil, hopefully not just removing it right away. Hilt and blade, ring, pommel and scabbard not done yet, did try to wash the chamois and will have to dry overnight.
was this a decent attempt?

Got my sword! Pretty nice but a few issues I noticed in the first few ]The ''made in india'' text is rusted in the letters, a stain? on the crossguard, abit of rust on the the scabbard's button. And the edge isin't centered? it dosen't meet the base on the middle. Now idea how serious those issue are, but it's before the first cleaning and oiling. But the sword feel very firmly set in it's hilt and the scabbard is very firm in place. Nice glad it came safe and sound and on time! Not sure what you mean about the edge? Are you talking about the fullers not being fully flush to the center of the blade? If so the fullering not being flush is more or less cosmetic and wont affect the handling or durability of the sword. The rust shouldn't be a big issue a little 1500 or 1000 grit wet dry paper with a little oil will clean those up fast. Looks good in the pics, have you handled it much yet, what's your thoughts on its feel?

Looks good in the pics, have you handled it much yet, what's your thoughts on its feel? More than on time, ordered in the evening. waited a day, arrived the morning after. But waited for a special day to get my hands on it. I just swung abit outside. Nice stabs but the edge aligement is ass, my second swing combo tended to end with the flat side.
Im more worried with the cleaning\oiling I did, hopefully I can save the chamois. Got very oily and worried just cleaning with soap will leave residue when I wipe next.
and my edge, I mean it isin't centered, when seem from the front (toward the edge) it's not centered, whoever shapened it seemed to grind one side much more than the other of one edge.
