Hi! Before reading this thread, please consider this: I'm a total beginner, this is my first sword and i'm a Kraut, so please excuse my bad language and the fact that i might not be able to describe the facts as clearly as in my own language. I bought this sword: www.schwertshop.de/anderthalbhaenderschwert-von-calenberg-kaufen.htmlThe same sword, but on Cult of Athena: www.kultofathena.com/product/late-medieval-longsword/I bought it to do some light cutting, i.e. milk cartons, plastic bottles and double layer beach mats. The sword (reminder: beginner!) cuts beautiful. When right aligned, 0,5-5 liter bottles stand no chance. It goes throu milk cartons like butter and double layered beach mats are no problem. After the third time cutting, i felt something rough ca. 20 cm in front of the guard. It looks like the blade is breaking, but length wise.
You can feel the crack with a fingernail, in fact i only spotted it when i was cleaning the blade with a oil rag. The crack is visible and touchable (right word? Remember, Kraut) on bough sides. On "Side 1" there is even a chip broken out of the blade. Yes, i did hit the cutting stand around 5-6 times, but only the top plank, which was made of pine, i.e. very soft wood. And it happened the first and second time i was cutting, the crack showed up on the third time. Now my question: Do you think this is a production flaw, or did i destroy the blade?

Hi, another Kraut here.
I have the exact same sword (in fact I used to own several of them over the years). I hit hanging wooden logs and standing plywood boards many times with at least two of those, never a problem. So I think you just may have a bad blade.

I'd say you got a blade that probably passed Quality control, but had hidden flaws. If you can get them to replace it, that would be awesome, but based on use...I would not hold my breath. It does look like a Ronin Katana #7 roninkatana.com/ronin-katana-two-handed-long-sword-7-leather-wrapped-grip/But might not be one of their specific swords. Regardless, you should take it up with the seller.
