I've never had mead before, so I'm looking for some recommendations for commercially available mead.

I'd recommend Moonlight Meadery as a good gateway mead: www.moonlightmeadery.com/Not cheap, as most mead isn't, but the alcohol content is high and it's good at dealing with oxidation so you don't have to slam a whole bottle in one sitting.

Pm forum member Christian. I remember he posted he likes mead. And iirc what he likes isn’t in his state.

Ah, another Honey brother, nice! A lot of my local favorites don't ship unfortunately but I'll say Charm City is pretty good. charmcitymeadworks.com/buymead

Not sure if I'm a honey brother or not, having never tried it. But I want to! Charm City seems pretty affordable. Thanks for the suggestions everybody...keep 'em coming.

I've had a small few meads, they're hard to find where I am but I've gotten a couple from other forum members, but I can't remember any of them right now. I boxed up my bottle collection a while back, too...
Gonna be keeping an eye on this thread for new ones to look out for, anyway.

Looks like Schramm's is available in a relatively nearby liquor store here in Southern California, and I'll be near there this Thursday.

Turns out there's a meadery in Richmond, not at all far from me, surrounded by breweries and a cidery or two. She's already made plans for a day out, so I guess we'll be seeing how they fare in two weeks.

You know, I didn't even think of searching for a local meadery, despite living near a decent number of wineries in Temecula. There is a meadery there that does tasting, so I might need to check that out.

There's a meadery not far from where I live and I tried different meads from them. I don't like mixtures with fruit juices, so called "Viking Blood" or else. But it is interesting to try different pure meads with different sweetness. Less sweet means also more alcohol usually. Darker and more aromatic forest honey mead and more such stuff.

Definitely check it out, breweries, Vinyards, meadworks are always good and they'll likely have a full stock of their products vs a more limited selection in stores.

I hate to be that guy but have you considered making your own? Most recipes are extremely simple and come out better than the commercially available stuff.

It's a shame you're (ALL) not closer. I'd send ya home with gallons... Currently have blueberry, cranberry, grapefruit, lemon, and a half dozen of *honey* only of various experimental honeys. But if you are concerned about flavors, remember the honey itself can impart flavor. It's just more subtle.

Thts not to say I don't enjoy the flavored Cysers and Metheglin is great in the fall an winter but the pure honey ones have such a unique depth of flavor. Aces. There's a place in Emmitsburg MD called Dawg Gone Bees that makes my absolute favorite brews.

I might try it sometime, but first I figure I should have an idea what it tastes like to know if I made the recipe correctly. And like stormmaster pointed out, time is definitely not in abundance.

I hate to be that guy but have you considered making your own? Most recipes are extremely simple and come out better than the commercially available stuff. It is fairly simple, but if you want to get to the level of the GOOD commercial examples you have to step your game up in regards to honey types and their sources, and things like staggered nutrient additions and water chemistry.
From my experience homebrewing and being around that crowd I think their is a great deal of people deluding themselves into believing they've made something better than professionals because they made it and it's theirs. I guess that's all that really matters though as long as you aren't being annoying about it to others.
