Thought it would be good to combine my introduction to the forum along with a few pictures of my latest project.
My name is Bjorn and I'm a bladesmith in Denmark. For some odd reasons the demand for high end kitchen knives is higher than for swords so they have been my mainstay even though I would like nothing more than focus solely on medieval cutlery
But here's my latest langes messer. the idea behind the build was to make a relatively high status item that would see more use flexing on the peasants than actual fighting and I do feel like I managed to hit that mark

This one for example will be around 2500ā¬ once I get around to posting it up while a relatively simple low status messer would start around 700ā¬

Thank you I spent hours going through paintings and artwork before beginning on this one along with catalogs of extant samples. It's not based directly on any one particular but drawing inspiration from many to make something historically plausible

Welcome to the forum. Nice package. It looks like you are more than a blade smith judging from the leather work on the scabbard.

Beautiful work! There are always people around here interested in ordering custom stuff. I see you already gave an estimate on your prices; what is your usual wait time for production? Do you have a website with a portfolio of your work?
Yeah, I don't understand, but more people want kitchen knives than swords. It's odd. A sign of our decadent society, I suppose!

Do you have a website with a portfolio of your work? Yeah, I don't understand, but more people want kitchen knives than swords. It's odd. A sign of our decadent society, I suppose! Right now the wait time is around two months while I both catch up on knife commissions and prepare presentation pieces for the MarchĆ© de l'Histoire medieval market in CompiĆØgne in the end of November. I post up most of my work on Instagram under Jarnskeggr, though a well organized portfolio would definitely be better. I am actually sketching and brainstorming ideas on how to combine the medieval aesthetic with the modern shapes of kitchen cutlery so I can enjoy making it more

Oh, you have an Etsy, too!
Always good to know where I can contact people who make custom swords...
