in our other thread there is discussion about military sabres.
if.. it was possible to have a faithful , sharp and funcitonal reproduction of a military sabre . one that is comparitive to the originals in temper, quality and balance.
a sword that has all the features of the original.
it seems the 1796 light cavalry sabre is the most popular choice? hard to find affordable originals.. and looks charismatic and im sure nice to cut with.
would there be interest in such a project. if this was something that could be done..
made to a high quality and able to pass all the proofing tests. with a good temper and a nice tapered blade with a fine cutting edge applied.
i am asking this as it seems over the years this sword has grown in popularity greatly. but there is no feasable reproductions and the antiques themselves are all very inflated in price.. even the german made ones.. bluchers ect.. are now 1000 euros or more .
if such a sword was to be made resonably it would have to be factory made. many features require serial production. . dies to be cut ect for some parts.. the woodern parts can be produced by cnc with a suitable drawing. but it is a situaiton of economy through volume.
what is the level of interest in this this sword?
im talking about a good faithful reproduction made in europe to a military grade of quality.
it would not be cheap but would be cheaper than people think.
also would people be interested in the complete sword with portepee (sword knot) hangers and belt or just the sword? (i see no swords come with their correct belt or handers)
i cant say it would be exactly 1:1 as the original but would be very close and as a sword from that period and fully functional
what do you all think of this idea?
if there was great interest in it.. maybe i could investigate further.
