So, it seems some sellers, shops, seem to claim to sell CAS Hanwei Tactical Katanas, I have yet to verify their authenticity, should I be worried. It seems to not be fully established that they are discontinued or not, and whether or not ones being sold right now have plasma coating. But also, are they any good, or should I just let this go?
In an ideal world I would want a katana, but made using the best of modern technologies, possibly surpassing the practical efficiency of traditional katanas, is this a pipe dream?
My requirements would be for it to be in shape and form identical to a katana, however, style and materials would be modern, muted and practical. Suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, veqtor!
Discontinued in the US doesn't necessarily mean discontinued in the whole world. I bought several swords in German stores that were discontinued in the US, all of them ok. The Hanwei Tac Kat is one of my best and most loved swords. Due to the full tang with the slab handles there's more mass in the handle than traditional kats have. That results in a very good and lively handling, for me an ideal balance. It's on the lightweight side, my Hanwei Raptor kat is definitely beefier and tougher. And it's not expensive too. An alternative is the APOC Tac Kat with an even lighter blade due to more distal and profile taper. It's very nimble but feels a little bit hilt heavy, but still lightweight overall.

Thank you for your reply, I will try to verify with the dealers if they in fact stock it.

Could you say anything about the quality of the edge? Will it need sharpening, is the blade straight?

Both tac cats were paper cutting sharp. What do you mean whith straight blade? Both are slightly curved kats, no bends in the blade.

Not identical to the shape/form of a Katana, but . . . check out Zombie Tools. I have one of their Zakasushi, and it's freakin' awesome. Overbuilt - but manageable, wicked sharp, probably hacks through doors. Made-to-order, so several months wait-time. Very entertaining copy on their website; lots of crazy videos out there of abusive testing. zombietools.net/collections/blades
