I had to put Odie, my 16 year old dog, down this morning. The best dog I’ve had and I’ll miss him. I am so sorry for your loss......I lost my heart dog, Baylee, 8 years ago when she was almost 15. The cancer we beat 4 years earlier had come back to take her from me. She died in my arms, at home, on her dog bed with her favorite toys around her... I still miss her every day and cry often over her passing. I find great comfort in my knowledge that she is waiting for when my time comes to walk with me into the light. Until then, I always find some solace in this quote... “Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs your heart is very big.” – Erica Jong.

Sometimes losing a pet hits harder than losing a human relative. I've had to say goodbye to my fair share of both over the years and it never gets easier.
My pets are all rescues, so I look at it like every day that they have now is one more day than they would have gotten if I didn't take care of them - so no matter how much time they get, it's all precious.
My condolences, but remember that you gave him the best doggie life possible.
