Here is one of the first Classic "Leaf" Style Mainz Gladii I have created for a client in Germany. The blade and the components are historically accurate to the archeological discoveries as listed below. This is actually the second Leaf Style, but finished prior to the first.
SWORD:
The Blade is a Classic “Leaf Shaped” MAINZ Gladius blade made of 1095 Steel, hollow ground and polished to a 200 grit finish. Based on Christian Miks Catalogue of Roman Swords and Scabbards Numbers: A457, A463 and A802. The blade is fully tanged and bears Rhema Creations LLC /Patrick B. Pointer’s current Maker’s Mark.
HILT:
GUARD: : The Guard is Hand Carved from European Boxwood based on a variation of a guard found in Christian Miks Catalogue of Roman Swords and Scabbards Numbers: B328,37 . The Guard Plate is made of Bronze and has a brush polished satin finish.
POMMEL: The Pommel is also Hand Carved from European Boxwood as found in Christian Miks Catalogue of Roman Swords and Scabbards found in Vindonissa number B328,2.
POMMEL FINIAL: The “Magdalensberg Museum's” two ring Pommel Finial variation in Christian Miks Catalogue of Roman Swords and Scabbards Number Tafel 156, no. B120.1 These pieces were hand carved and created with the Lost Wax method cast in bronze.
GRIP: The Grip is a 6 sided chiseled finger grip, hand carved from Camel Bone. The entire hilt is glued and peened to the blade. All organic components have been resin stabilized. The entire sword has two coats of Renaissance Museum Wax.
it weighs in at 2lbs. 1.5oz and has a Point of Balance at 4.6" from the guard.
Coming Soon: Another Classic Leaf Mainz Gladius and Scabbard, A 4th-5th Century 3 Fuller Migration Spatha Sword, A Fulham Gladius and Scabbard and a few more...
