This is Odie. The photos show a young, then a greying middle aged Odie. Now at less than a couple of months shy of 16 he is a pathetic sight and perhaps I should put him down, something I haven’t been able to do. He suffers from many causes, arthritis, can scarcely walk, is unstable, has difficulty getting up and needs assistance at times, has lost significant eye sight and hearing. Some teeth have disappeared and I now feed him soft foods, some by hand. Has lost much control with his bodily functions and at time doesn’t make it to his papers nor outside. The worst part is that he can’t remain standing to defecate falling in his crap and then can’t get up resulting in a clean-up all around. Has a continuous erection. I’ll wake up 1-2 times a night to get him to his papers, helping much. No photos at this time but he is more grey and hunched back now. I pump medicine in him a couple times a day. He was unable to get into his bed so I spread out some rugs in his room and the office. As for my bed I give a hand as he can no longer make it, and sometimes he falls out. If I leave him to his room he’ll cry all night and neither of gets any sleep. I’m going to miss him terribly, the best dog I’ve had and I’ve had many. General Beauregard, a German Shepherd, was a close second. I was the care taker of a wild life club and shooting range at the time. He had a free run and I taught him to come when I sounded Recall. I don’t know his travels but he would come on the run soaking wet after sounding the call. The land boarded a river. One night I blew Recall and no General Beauregard. I have no idea what happened. Some causes could be he was shot, snake bit, lost a discussion with the wild dogs, or drowned? There were many wild dogs in the area and I’d find deer corpuses from time to time. A couple more that I found.

The afternoon siesta, 13:30 Hr. He takes many these days, morning, midmorning, afternoon, evening, and then there’s the night. He no longer barks nor pays attention to those that do. I suspect life is miserable for him these days.

It’s going on four years since my dog died. He was a good friend, and I miss him every day.
Everyone thinks they have the best dog. And none of them are wrong. - unknown

Guess I'm more of a cat person, but love dogs too. Heck, I'm just an animal lover. Probably why St. Francis is my favorite saint.
