I did some thinking today and I came to a theory. They have evidence that both were used, yes? I am thinking that they drank the mushroom laced booze to work themselves into the frenzy and rubbed the henbane on themselves to minimize the pain. Given the information that we have it does fit. Oh, by the way, you said that you do not drink, but you did not say anything about taking the magic mushrooms. š¹š¹š¹š¹ Thing is we don't actually have evidence anything was used. We've found Henbane in graves, and that's it. There's no hard evidence it was actually used for berserking, just conjecture, and there is no evidence at all if I remember right that mushrooms were used. Berserkers also had contradictory and sometimes impossible attributes assigned to them in stories so anything without hard evidence should be taken with a grain of salt. Like, there is absolutely no way a warrior was magically immune to bladed weapons while raging but could be easily killed by a wooden club. That's just fiction right there. And yes, it literally said was immune to bladed weapons, not that he could just ignore pain. Hell, we don't even know for sure if Berserker meant they went into battle wearing bear pelts or went into battle naked (Bare). Okay. I will say this. Many myths and legends are based in fact. That is a fact. So it is very possible that they used those things. It is possible that they were claimed to be immune to those weapons as themselves bragging and or their enemies speaking out of confusion amd fear trying to explain why they were hard to kill. It is also very possible that it all is complete lies. That is why I called it a theory and not fact. The naked part in my one post was about the Celts not the Vikings and there are numerous writings from the people they fought with and against. The list includes Romans, Goths, Saxons and Norse among others. So I will believe that. Too much documentation.

Older thread...hope its okay to comment.
I like the kit ...thinking of getting a kit / outfit as well to match my sword.
I would also second the notion of "a bit clean" , as posted by pgandy.
I have experience in re-enacting the role of a Western Fur Trader and my kit ain't too clean... I often hear that it looks "real". That would be , because it is "real"...As in it shows real use , not just as a rendezvous costume.
I use my knives as kitchen knives , camp knives and while hunting... I often hunt and camp while in my outfit. This helps me know what works and what doesn't....Plus starting a campfire with flint and steel is fun to do.
I am not saying to abuse your outfit...or go roll in the dirt with it... Just maybe do things with it..to promote honest wear on your outfit. Andy

Thread necromancy seems to be a bit of a sport here sometimes. And this one isnāt even that old. And good advice about ābreaking inā your outfits. Iāve bought new jeans before and drop them on some dirt and walk/stomp on them, wash them then repeat as needed.

So..."thread necromancy" on a sword forum...would that equal Sword and Sorcery..? LOL
Breaking in a outfit..works well to see how it actually fits and if it will work for you. Plus you may get an idea of how things were done in the period. Andy

Like, I play airsoft too, and Fudds may crap on some brands of gear (Like Condor) but I guarantee I have used my tactical gear far rougher than many range Fudds have and it hasn't failed me. Rolling in the mud, hiking through 7 foot tall grass on uneven dirt, you name it.
