I need something I can use to learn how to sharpen a blade without having to worry about ruining.
I could just get the cheapest machete from Amazon but I thought I would ask advice on inexpensive blades for that task?

How I got my starting experience with sharpening was with old, cheap kitchen knives and machetes. Not really sure what would be any better. get somethign with a taper on it.. a cheap indian made sword blade.. like a saber or a medieval sword .. that will give you a better perception of blade profile than a flat thin machete.. you can get a cheap indian made saber on the internet 30-40$ us shoudl get you one.. probably the bald eis barely hardened or totally unhardened.. btu you cna practice filing and grinding ..

They shouldn’t be hard to find. I started with my sheathed hunting knives out of necessity. Have a look in your kitchen drawer. Possibly a flea market or yard sales. Keep in mind different blades with varying geometry will require slightly different techniques, but you will need to start somewhere. Remember if swords are your objective to figure in shipping when dealing with an online source.

Cheap machetes from Amazon can be had for $15-20 bucks. They usually come as unsharpened but already have a bevel on so you can practice sharpening. The problem is they are very thin and made of soft steel, so there's not much practice to be had. If you would like to practice reprofiling or even grinding a distal taper on a sword blade, try deepeeka swords. They are dirt cheap, come as blunt and don't have much distal tapering if any at all--a good template for practice.

If you want the absolute cheapest I think harbor freight sells machetes for $5-$10
