Having a Kopis made by GGK has overshadowed my own attempt at a sword.
This is a 4thC BC Scythian Akinakes I made myself. I cannot for the life of me remember if I bought 1095, or 5160 stock from a supplier in Sydney
I used stock removal to make the blade and built up the hilt and pommel from some scrap chunks I had laying about. I had a go at tempering it myself. Seems ok, I've cut with it and it does the job. Either way it is far superior metal to the original.
I also made the scabbard for it.

Don't think I've heard of akinakes, but I like the look of yours.

Beautiful, I love the center ridge. And the guard. All of it really. Scythians don't get enough repros or attention.

I forgot to ask: What are the specs on this thing? Length, weight, etc. Will we get to see you cut with it?

That looks great and I have no doubts it’s superior to the originals. I wasn’t familiar with akinakes either. And like randomnobody I’d like to know the specs. I appears larger than the typical akinakes which had 14-18” blades. Yours has nice proportions with well defined lines.

I'll get some specs tomorrow, but it is a little longer than vast majority of originals.
This is the 4thC BC sword I based mine on. I screwed up making the blade, so didn't get that pronounced centre line and what looks like a hollow grind to the blade.
!!!!! Oooooooo, another commission with Purna!!!!!

Some quick specs. Blade length-610mm. Overall Hilt length-140mm. Weight-850grams. PoB-120mm in front of guard.
I'll video cutting with it, if I can get some time later today.

Nice, that's a bit bigger than I guessed.

I need to do some work on the edge of the Akinakes!

Just a little touch-up on the edge and it'll be as scary as the kopis.
I love both. I'd known about kopis for years, but this is the first time I've seen an akinakes, so it's got my interest in a big way.
