I have a very nice folded KC katana that has a far too long tsuka on it. I'd like to shorten it by at least three inches, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting the tsuka off to see how long the tang actually is. Does anyone have any tips on removing a too tight tsuka and shortening it? A while back I know someone was offering a service where they'd do it for you.

Be advised that in some cases the factory will take a short cut and epoxy an ill fitting tsuka on. This is mostly be found, if at all, on lower end katanas.

Kris Cutlery seem to be decent about not taking those short of shortcuts.

The only permanent thing I can remember Kris Cutlery doing was pinning their early katanas. But that was waaaay back in the early 2000's.

This is a rather old Kris. I don't think it was one of their release models.
