It ended up being a bit of a hybrid of an ilwoon and a pata. Forging that shape was a pain, and there are 3 cross sections. It goes from flattened diamond with a fuller (I know the z section would be more accurate) at the grip to hexagonal to flattened lenticular. It has a concave distal taper that goes from about 6mm to 1.5mm. I’m fairly pleased with the results and figured I’d share.

Do my eyes deceive me, or do I see copper? I'm a HUGE fan of copper fittings.

Yup, that’s copper. The face of the guard, and the face of the pommel are both copper. Gotta love plumbing couplers. A pair of tin snips, some time flattening it out, and you’ve got cheap copper sheet. I gave it a pebbled finish with a ball peen. I’m with you. Copper rules.
I need to clear out some bamboo from the fence line. I’ll see if I can get some footage.

I don't think it should be used in every project, but it is definitely underused as a material, apart from making bronze or brass, of course.

The sword in my avatar pic is a Windlass type IV with a copper wire grip wrap and copper coin inserts. Beautiful stuff.
