I am planning on relocating to a new city some 300 miles away and I seriously need to downsize my collection of swords and the like. The trouble is, a substantial amount of the items I own I am reasonably confident NO ONE will want to buy. There are a few items I could give away to friends as parting gifts, but some of the things in my collection I am fairly sure I couldn't give away.
How can I get rid of these items? I can't throw this stuff out in the garbage. Can steel be recycled?
I can provide more information about what I am looking to get rid of, of course, but in general, if I can't hock it, how can I get rid of it?

Post them up as giveaways! You never know. I buy clumsy, rustic, weird stuff all the time to break down for my own custom projects.
Also, I see stuff listed for sale and proudly featured in writeups all the time that you couldn't pay me to take. But I won't yuck another person's yum, as they say.
I'm sure there will be some unkind comments about some of your items, but someone may step up and say they love this or that.

Post a list of the stuff you are willing to get rid of with price listed as best offer. You might not get much but some is better than nothing and you never know who is going to bite.

I’m with viece on this. I’m strictly a budget collector, at least until I win the lottery, haha. I’ve made an apocalyptic weapon from a circular saw blade and a long tool handle. Like viece said always looking for something for a project to keep me occupied. And don’t worry about what anyone says, we’ve ALL bought stuff we later regrets or our tastes change. If you do a giveaway as suggested just have the buyer pay for the postage. Looking forward to seeing what you have. And good luck with your move leb. I’m sure it’s exciting and scary at the same time.

Take the crummiest stuff you have, bury it in the dirt for a few weeks, maybe rub some vinegar on it. Just rough the hell out of it, then list it on ebay as an antique and sell it for thousands!
</sarcasm>
But really, I echo what the others said above. See what you can get it for it. You can always try putting them up on Craigslist, also.

I say bury the swords under a slab in your basement with an assortment of random bones and let the next homeowner decide what to do about it.

Thanks for the suggestions, even the silly ones.
I think I will consider just giving them away for nothing if the shipping and packaging is paid for.

Local craigslist. "Free swords, must take all shown. Must be of legal age" Post photo and contact there (through system, no calls).

Give them away as a competition, winners pay postage. Post a picture of your most embarrassing sword or knife!

Interesting. I have a chair in Rome that is very similar and made from the the swords and armor of barbarian tribes that I've conquered.
