Hello there -
I wanted to drop a laudatory note describing my recent experience purchasing two Albion swords from member Lord Newport.
Like many of us, I started an interest in medieval edged weapons ages ago. As a teen, my folks gifted me with a couple of Del Tins when we took summer vacations in Europe. I've cherished them since, even if I don't handle them much. Time went by and I picked up a couple of Windlasses and a Darksword along the way, but still wanted to try a higher end production build like an Albion. Luckily my wife (the historian) enjoys their accuracy and appreciates their value/attention to detail, so I was all clear to pull the trigger.
I posted a wanted ad for an Albion Knight a few weeks back, and Lord Newport messaged me about his Knight as well as some other swords he was considering selling, and negotiations were off to the races. I ended up purchasing his Knight with a wood core, leather covered scabbard manufactured by Albion as well as his Yeoman with a custom Tod Cutler scabbard.
Now I see what all the fuss has been about - WOW. While I like my Windlass and other builds reasonably well for what they are and what I spent, these Next Gen Albion swords are clearly several tiers above anything in my rec room. My BYOS is basically a pokey crowbar compared to the Knight or Yeoman. I find them incredibly light, well balanced, and lively. At this point, it will be hard for me to go back to a lower end build, although I plan on keeping what I've accrued thus far. It's amazing how differently they handle, especially being almost the same weight (within 2 ounces).
Lord Newport described them as pristine, with no flaws, dings, scratches, etc and sent some beautiful pics of them for me to drool over. His descriptions were very accurate, as neither build has any nicks, marks, or assorted boo boos. These blades are as close to perfect as can be.
Throughout the process, Lord Newport was very prompt, courteous, and detailed. It can be a bit risky conducting business with strangers, but after some messages and phone discussions, I felt secure that he would behave professionally. I hope to do business with him again in the future and I recommend him without hesitation.
