Hows everyone doing? Finally managed to put an edge on my H/T Longsword that I'm satisfied with (well, at least on one side of the blade lol) and had a pretty solid cutting session when I had the misfortune of not only putting a solid hole in my dry leathery hands, but the leather on the grip of my sword finally gave way. I'm looking for any advice you all could recommend for fixing the grip. I'll be on a fairly tight budget probably until the end of summer, so the cheaper the solution the better lol! Would glueing be sufficient? If so what glue would be recommend? Thanks in advance. Attaching a pic so you can have a better look at the issue (my sword loving cat included).

Totally. Just glue it back down. I had a similar issue with the leather on an H/T Bastard Sword grip. I glued it back in place with contact cement. But you can also use a wood glue and it should work perfectly fine.

Thanks for the advice joe_meadmaker. I think I might have some left over wood glue from an old project that might just do the trick! I'm assuming securing the leather with some twine/cord while the glue sets will provide the best results? Probably give it a try later this weekend or next if I dont get a chance.

You can wrap the grip with tennis grip band if you don't mind the modern look. It's soft, grippy, you can vary the thickness and form of the grip and it's easy to remove if you use one without an adhesive side.

I can already imagine being disappointed in the looks, but hey, I would rather my sword be functional and look funny than be out of commission. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, wrap it with string, cord, ribbon, whatever you have. Wrap it from one end of the grip to the other, and wipe away any excess glue that gets pressed out at the seam.

Or if you want the superior grip, use hockey tape. hockey tape gang rising up! 😎 I ended up glueing down the leather with some Gorilla wood glue I had tucked away and it's held up through a few more cutting sessions. Leather started to split towards the pomel too, so I glued that down earlier today. That leather is inevitably going to fail entirely though and I'll probably end up joining the sides of grip bands or hockey tape one of these days, soon enough lol.
