I finally found a way to phrase this question in a decent way I think. I was wondering, if you lived in the lord of the rings universe, with a similar wealth and kit as you own right now, would you or would you not wear armour. What kind of weapon would you take. What kind of armour, if you took any, would you take? Factor in stuff like walking long distances, weather, camping, weight, etc
I think if I really needed any at all, I would take a helmet, shield, a sword and a spear. Or if I really wanted to cut weight, a buckler instead of a shield (though I feel like I would wanna at least add a single sided breast plate, which would just add the weight back anyway)
Maybe a small bow, unstrung, tied to my pack

Armor would probably be heavy wool clothing if in winter like weather, and forget heavy armor unless on a horse combined with short journey to the battlefront. The horse would be a big factor in equipment carried, so I guess mounted & unmounted two part answer to question. Weather and size of journey are also key factors.

Padded armor, small open helm, bastard sword, dagger, heavy knife, quiver, arrows and short composite bow.

I liked to imagine myself, through some magical means, joining the fellowship at Rivendell. They set off on foot with one pack horse and deliberately traveled light. I think Borimir, Gimili and Frodo (mithril shirt) were the only ones with any sort of armor. I think I'd forego it (except maybe a mithril shirt) and just carry a short, light spear that could be used as a walking stick, a knife at my hip, and maybe a kukri or short sword on my pack as a backup. Always a conundrum, though. After days on end of hiking, even a modest amount of armor and weaponry is going to be wearisome. But when battle comes, you'll probably wish you had it. Still, I think, the less encumbered you are the more alert you're going to be, and that might mean more in terms of life and death than what specific gear you're carrying.

Padded armor, small open helm, bastard sword, dagger, heavy knife, quiver, arrows and short composite bow. I feel like this set up could work if pauldrons or Jack chains were added as well. Small bit of armour just to make that leap in protection without too much weight, otherwise, I like this set up. But then again, maybe the maintenance might not make it worth it Howler: not a bad idea. Wool is some good stuff. It's one of my favourite materials Murffy: what sort of spear do you have in mind? Storm master : now we're talking, heavy artillery, let em know what they're dealing with 😎 Though I don't think you own any gondor armour... Do you? If you do, I'm jealous

I would be unarmed and no armour. I would hang in the back and wait for someone to die then I would take their weapon. Tacky, I know. But there it is.

One would be crazy NOT to be wearing the mithril shirt if available.

Assuming that I had a comparable relative wealth in a LOTR universe as I do in the real world, then I would be well fitted out with camping gear and seasonal clothing. I would have two very good primary weapons in the form of a spear and a sword.
My armor would be light, perhaps whatever the equivalent of Lorica Segmentata exists, if not, then heavy padded with a good helm.
Truth is that I couldn't afford a staff of people to take care of my stuff, and I would have maybe one or two donkeys to carry extra junk. Heavy plate armor is out of the question not only for cost, but maintenance and difficulty putting it in and off, let alone not being able to wear it all the time.
I would have good quality gear, travel relatively light and trade armor protection for comfort and speed. Truth is that armor is useless in a LOTR realm as arrows and swords apparently cut right through it anyways and it affords no protection whatsoever. I would have to rely primarily on plot armor to carry me through.

Murffy: what sort of spear do you have in mind? A Condor Greek spear is what I have ... I find I can maneuver it pretty easily, even in fairly tight spaces. Five feet long and weighs about 2 pounds, a little heavy for a walking stick but not bad. It's made of hickory which seems a little denser than ash. I'm thinking about remounting the head on an ash pole about 5 1/2 feet long, but the more I dink with this one, the more I like it as it is. In terms of fight-or-flight, I lean toward the flight side. Another reason for traveling light!

All of the above, plus a bow, and a cool elven cloak for camo.

That looks like it could be a great piece for my kit

I think they got it right with Strider. My Kawashima/RK#7 longsword would do. Would need to get me a light mail shirt. And a better bow and better arrows than I have now. And other things I don't have (cloak, boots, vambraces etc.)

That looks like it could be a great piece for my kit I've been studying kali a little bit and saw the spear in this guy's video. I had to have it. The head, while not sharp on the edges, is rock solid. I can jam it hard in to a 2x8 without issue. I actually bent my CS Assegai spear a little bit doing that so it's been demoted to second string.

Maybe I got the last one. It was only a month or two ago that I bought it. Yeah, I like that Kali Center guy's videos. His drills for sword, spear and staff are pretty straight forward.

I used to like training with them, back when I did double stick more often. The double stick drills with 10lbs dumb bells can be a work out after a a few videos, even if it doesn't seem like it will be
