I am not sure where exactly to put this as it fits all types of swords not one specifically and I see no sections that cover all swords where this fits so in advance. Sorry if I am wrong.
If you had the money, who would spend at least twenty thousand dollars (US) on a sword that is not an antique but newly made? I admit that I would.

It would have to be a very special sword that would, at minimum, hold that value. I know there are swords out there that aren't terribly old that run 10K and up, but I've never encountered one for 20K that was legit.
But if I had the money, really liked the sword, and could believe in 20-50+ years it would still be worth 20K or better? Sure.

I would spend the money for the whole sword making process. Bavarian iron ore, ancient bloomery process to get the steel. Hammer forged. Some kind of 500-700 AD spatha. If there's money left some silver for a nice hilt. "Exbavaribur"!

I would much prefer to get a suit of custom armour with that, but if I had to go with a sword, I would go for the most blingy sort of sword I can find. Pattern welded TH triple fullered, silver inlayed, silver fullered, blade, silver ring hilted cross guard and silver daimon inlayed pommel, silver sandwich tang hilt, silver covered wooden scabbard with a felt lining, made of ironwood...
List goes on. Gem encrusted scabbard, gem and silver encrusted belt, you name it

I'll never have 20k to spend, but if I did, I'd spend it on some remodeling on my house or a new car for my wife---or both maybe. As swords go, I'm perfectly happy with my $200+ (but sub-$300) models. Nobody NEEDS a sword that expensive. Maybe they're trying to compensate for lack of---*ahem*---'other things'. -------McM

Anything not spent would be deducted as a surplus that can't be kept

I'd probably just get an Albion Caithness and let the rest go back. I don't care. You can't take money OR swords with you when it's your time to go, and you never know when that's gonna be. When I'm gone, I'm not gonna be worried about having a room full of weapons and armor.-----------------McM

I don't know though---I might be buried with one of my swords and in my armor. Maybe 500 years from now, somebody will dig me up and say ---"Holy CRAP! A knight from the 21st Century?--- -----McM

My athena was alot more then 20k, tho I traded for it with swords for a large portion of the cost. I just wanted perfection and artistry that was wholly unique and peter johnsson delivered that with his reflections series, worth it to me as an art piece and considering the steep increase in price of all of PJ's work even going back a few years im sure will maintain and probably increase in value in the years to come

Nope.
I came to the point in my collecting that anything valued over a few thousand dollars wasn't going to be something I'd ever actually " use " as opposed to stare at like a museum piece.
It would almost be like I'd ask myself do I " deserve " such an item ?
As it is, the relatively inexpensive items I DO own are pleasing enough to me ...

Remember Alexander, and the Gordian Knot.
If I spend $20K on a brand new sword, it better come from a galaxy far, far, away, and run on vacuum energy.
