I miss my kami something fierce. I doubt that seller actually has one, as it's been discontinued for many years. I'd call or email them first before ordering, assuming it's a reputable dealer.
If you're just looking for a fun backyard cutter, the raptor is a great choice. There are several reviews available. May be better to start there before committing to a pricier blade.

It is a private person who has the Kami for sale, he purchased it for serval years ago from a local dealer. He ask 1100 dollars for it but I think I have managed to get it for around 700 buck's ๐
But is the Kami a good backyard cutter?

Not really, in my opinion. If you're an experienced cutter using it for tameshigiri, sure. If you're looking for something forgiving in case you biff a cut? Noooo.
The kami is differentialy hardened, folded steel. This type of sword can be a very strong cutter in experienced hands, but I've seen $1k+ katana bent by a bad cut. If you want the kami because it's a rare find and it's what you like the look of, go for it, but I wouldn't use it as a fun-cutter.
That's my opinion. I think you'll have more fun cutting with the raptor.

At $700 Iโd go for the Kami. I like the kassaki as that will give point better. Having said that for that price Iโd get a good sub $200 katana also and learn with that. Being your first you are going to make mistakes and itโs better to learn on a lesser expensive sword. I donโt know what condition the blade is in but cutting alone will scratch it.

I think so too, the Kami is in mint condition and has never been used for cutting, only for displaying. So i think it's a good deal

That's an excellent deal. Like I said, I really miss mine. If you decide that you no longer want it after awhile and it's still looks good, let me know. For real, let me know. Lol

I could never decide whether I liked the Kami, aesthetically. I always knew it was beyond my level, anyway.
First sword? Backyard cutting? Raptor.
Experienced iaodoka (or similar) looking to upgrade an existing shinken? Kami.

They're differentialy hardened and have some nice basic fittings. I've had a Practical Plus base model and it was solid.

Honestly for its price on the Hanwei site it might be comparable to get the sword from the US if the shipping evens out. I remember buying from Irongate a big European warsword and it was only $60 to ship to the US, can't be that much more to ship from the US to Europe. www.hanwei-sword-shop.com/en/product/practical-plus-elite-katana-2/

Benefit of the Practical Plus Elite is it's not built like a practical line and has more attention given to the fit and finish. The Raptor actually is more similar to the standard practical than the PPE. The Raptor does have the 5160 TH blade though which is more forgiving to beginners. Guess it comes down to aesthetic preference, if you like the Raptor koshirea over the more simple PPE koshirea. PPE's tsuka will feel better though with its cotton ito and slimmer better shaped tsuka.

Im having a conversation with the guy who owns the Kami now as we speak, as soon he has calulated what the shipping cost would be, we are going to make the deal ๐( around 800 dollar) But I am only going to have it on display, no cutting ๐ Maybe, just maybe I will try it on a filled water bottle ๐
