Man, I keep forgetting about this thread and then you post. That looks great. Can’t wait to see it finished. Is that olive wood? Can’t remember if you said before.
Edit: you said stabilized beech.

Thank you, guys! Today I finally cold peened the nagel with the brass ball on the other side. Also peened the little pin next to it. Next thing was to bring the wood into the rough shape and taper it towards the blade.
Little excursion: After heat treatment I bought some sanding belts from M3. Some of you may have heard about their "Cubitron II" belts. Whoa, awesome things! They're so much better than my usual belts. I could have saved so much time during all my past projects if I used them .
But enough surreptitious advertising, here are some pictures from today:
(There are some remains visible from the duct tape I used to protect the nagel)
The transitions from wood to metal shells will be equipped with connecting pieces made from black volcanic fiber. They have the same height afterwards, of course. After that step, I will pour out the blackened epoxy into the pits on the spine.

The project is still alive, but not much time at the moment. So some mini progress:
Still some irregularities here and there to get rid of. And some minor changes with the blade I'm aiming for.
