After purchasing a British Royal Navy Sword ,I've found myself gaining an interest in antiques. As I was researching other types of sabers I discovered a a few Italian sabers for a good price. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find much info on them,so I was hoping to see how good these would be for dry-handling and possibly for test cutting. Attachments

I'm sure if you window shop some more, you'll note that those listings have very inflated pricing. Faganarms particularly lists goods at premium pricing. There are occasional incidences where they are not listed at more than twice decent pricing but they are few and far between. The 1888 that leads out that set of listings is twice what one should pay for that model in better shape and with its scabbard. The ebay seller similarly prices his collection at a hefty premium. Plug Italian in the search function and you will come across a few threads for background. There is a subscription site www.oldswords.com with a database. Cheers GC

Concur with Edelweiss. Better go look somewhere else. These are NCO/Officers models and as such more like uniform pieces, dress swords. Swords and sabres without scabbard often sell for half the price of items with. If you want to cut look for an M1860 Cavalry. That's a well made beast and prices are reasonable last time I looked.
Cheers.

Thanks for the advice, after looking at the M1860 Cavalry I think I'll go for that. Are there any sellers that sell it a reasonable price you would recommend?

Cannot think of any at this moment. Better I think when you post if you find one. One of us for sure will help you out.
Cheers.

Simple searches, for a start. What is your location?
If I happen to bump into one, I'll share a link but your location may determine whether an end cost is worth the time spent. For me, time I'll never get back.

The social media sources seem to indicate that the typical availability of 19th Century European swords is currently way down, presumably due to COVID. Asking prices seem to be way up lately, too (though Faganarms has, imho, always been extremely fond of their items).
The Euro is up a bit vs the USD, and the GB pound is way up. Shipping is up, too. For me, that means buying from Europe or the UK demands quite a premium atm.
In general, I also prefer trooper swords.
If you are particularly set on an Italian sword, I’d say to also consider the m1833 artillery trooper. I have one, and it is a very serious fighting sword that is quite pleasing to wield.
If you are just looking for a cool historical sword to play with, there are a bunch of models that might scratch your itch. A wider net might yield faster results. As always, I’m more than happy to share my personal preferences! 🙄
Good hunting

Rumour has it that Hennadiy sells MDL seconds MDL cannot sell under his own name. Rumour or not, many items seem overpriced for the condition they're in and this is one of the sellers too I found, where one has to very careful. Faults are not always mentioned in the text and one has to go over the images with a loupe as it were. Totally my experience of course. Yours may differ. Personally I do not buy there.

He is known to folks in the midwest buying from tables at militaria shows. Nor is he associated with Fagan. This has been discussed by both buyers and sellers in the US at military and gun shows. He is a one man band. www.auctionzip.com/MI-Auctioneers/928447.html

Prices are all over the place. Auctions seem to be best right now. I just picked up a Bavarian M1855 Artillery Officer's Interim-saber, in good condition, for $227.00 USD total (plus around 4 hours research to identify it first). Things that don't automatically fit a well-known template seem to attract fewer serious bidders, but the research is crucial.
BTW, I'll be photographing it and posting it after it arrives. It got shipped today. Should make a nice contrast to my pipeback Wurttemburger.
Wow, now I've got a collection.
