So I was wondering if anyone had any guess to the age or value of this katana I bought at a local antique fair? It was advertised to be around the ww2 era but I’m not sure. Has anyone else had luck finding swords at antique shops/fairs? imgur.com/a/gNBPOja

Unfortunately, I'm afraid this is neither antique nor Japanese, for starters.
That aside, it's slightly better than the typical decorative sword, but I'm hesitant to say it's a functional, useable piece.
Swords like this are sold as antique pretty often, sadly, some going for a good amount ($500+) but they're probably only "really worth" $150-200 at the most, being generous.

Thank you for letting me know, sucks that it isn’t what’s thought it was but I appreciate you for informing me!

I second randomnobdy's statement. I would be highly suspect of the tempering.

Has anyone else had luck finding swords at antique shops/fairs? Hi, abbyink
I have collected various things over the years. The best advice that I can give you about antique shops and fairs is "know before you go". That is, be as well informed as you can about whatever it is you are interested in before you step into one of those places. Most do not offer good value for money and there can be a fair amount of fakery.
And, yes, I have been burned, too. As one old collector told me, "that's called tuition, and every collector pays it".
