I think I am going to need one, but with a snake head instead of a horse. I know it's not historical, per se, but I don't care. Given that he comes from the land of snakes, I am sure he will be thrilled to make it. I'll have to commission it down the road as I am planning a move. |

Well it has been a flat out month!
But here is some video from the ancients riding display we did down at Kryal Castle in Victoria as part of the weekends events, and my 50th birthday.
My mate Phil is the Arena Manager at the castle, and he borrowed all my Roman Auxiliary cavalry kit to ride in. I rode in my Bosporan Scythian kit, but didn't use my new kopis to cut with as we didn't have suitable cutting stands to use.

The following weekend at the Blacktown Medieval Fair I met up with Tony. Tony contacted me about my experiences with Purna, and as a result of our conversation he ordered a kopis as well.
It arrived in time to get the siblings together!

And todays job was to make some cutting stands. There will be 3 of these cutting stands for our Ancients displays. There is a piece of pine in the steel frame that is adjustable up and down. So they can be set for cutting on foot or from horse back. The heights can also vary for cutting from horse from stand to stand. Using a piece of pine will also protect the blade if I screw up. Better to hit the wood than the metal! Still working out how to attach what we will be cutting. The pool noodles seem to work well. I have never really done any test cutting. I've cut melon etc. using my semi sharp swords from horseback before. But this kopis,,,,, is absolutely terrifying!

I'm so happy Purna's work is being put to the test like this, especially in such an exciting way. I'm sure he's thrilled.

Purna sure knows how to make a blade sharp. I'm cautious about using my kukris because I'm afraid if I needed to touch up the edges, I'd screw something up.
