May i ask what he charges you for that cool thing? We are going now for a more medieval/fantasy interpretation as a replacement for the ZT "Harvester" we just sold... Purnas drawing so far: i think he nailed it again. He promises the whole thing will be FAR under 1500 g instead of 1800 g at the original design...
He charged me $700 for sword, scabbard, and shipping. I like your design. I've got a weakness for single-edged fantasy blades. Something about them just speaks to me.

Great job on the pommel. I think the lines of the guard could be tweaked a little bit, but it's coming together nicely.
I'm going to ask him if he can tweak the lines of the quillions, like so:

I understand the weakness and share it too, I've heard and still hear the whispers...they want...want...want... Do you know how spiky (?) the end quillons will end ?

I love the shape of that scentstopper pommel. Looks very well done. Other than the curvature of the quillon, I would also double check with Purna about the dimensions of that grip. So far it looks fine, just make sure it’s not very cylindrical. A badly shaped grip (ergonomic-wise) could single-handedly ruin the handling of an otherwise amazing sword. I know Purna is capable of creating excellent grips when giving clear instructions.

Handle shape was one of the first things I discussed with him, actually. This is what he drew for the basic idea:

Anyway, the grip has very good oval shape in the half nearer to the guard while it grows slightly thicker and cylindrical in the part towards the pommel. Top!

Yeah you would think an experienced smiths would understand pretty well, giving that kukris have nice grip cross sections. Most of our commissioned swords have different ergonomic grips. But one of our fellow members almost got a cylindrical grip on his custom with Purna, luckily it was discovered and rectified before the sword was shipped. Sometimes the best way to get the optimal results for your money is just not assuming anything, not being afraid of being redundant and checking every excoriating minor details. Sometimes Purna will ask you about details like the grip cross section and dimensions, sometimes he will just infer from the photos you provide. Throughout history, there were indeed very few examples of swords having cylindrical grips, Thai dhaab being one of them, which really confounds me of the practicality of that kind of sword.

We hve some production Gladii and the CS Thai Machete; to be honest, while edge alignment should be easier with the ergonomic grips Holger doesnt seem to have much problems with the too cylindrical grips on those swords. But he is wearing some kind of bicycle or fitness gloves when cutting, so that might help of course.

The sin of cylindrical grips is you can hardly get a good index of the edge alignment (unless you are thumbing the blade). That's hard to rectify by merely wearing gloves.

Just about done. I think Purna forgot about, or I did a poor job communicating about, the heron mark etched into the blade above the crossguard. I'm sure we'll get it sorted out quickly, though. I think it's looking phenomenal, and can't wait to get it!

One elegant looking fantasy Swiss saber! Love that scentstopper pommel, seems coming straight off an Albion Earl!

I actually used the picture of the Mercenary's pommel from Albion's website to show him what I was looking for.

See what he did with the pommel on Holgers sword - not only he got it right, he even modified and optimized it for the refined design; smaller, flatter, without specifically asking him. He knew right away what had to be done to make it functional! Attachments:
