I have a shamshir/scimitar from GGK that I want to learn to use better. I'm not really sure what the right way to grip it is, though. There's 3 ways I'm thinking might work, but I really don't know the best way. Any help?
Grip 1: hammer
Grip 2: handshake?
Grip 3: no clue of the name
By the way, don't worry about the wrist alignment in these pictures - I was just trying to get the grip into the photo.

Hammer. Wrist stays locked out instead of snapping forward. Edge is drawn across target in a wide arc of the arm moving from the shoulder. Don't forget to practice hook thrusts.

That's fascinating, thanks! I should have known scholagladatoria would have a video about this.

Is that the shamshir Eric commissioned?

Yes, I believe so. He was (and still is, I think) selling several GGK scimitars/shamshirs. I bought this one from him.

Wow, doing that drill killed my legs in about 3 minutes. Got a lot of practice to do.

If you want the Turkish Hollywood version, see Resurrection Ertegrul on Netfix. Lotta time spent on swordfights when pike or bow and arrow would work better!
A lot of slashing movements, mostly aimed at the throat. Many of their enemies had mail or at least leather armor. Mostly kilij, but interesting that another show, the great Seljuks available on a Brit FB channel, looks like central casting has a KOA account!
