I have inherited this sword, I’m not sure where it came from. There is writing on it up near the handle. It reads I. F. M. II. 60. 12 Then underneath that it has the number 73 Can anyone tell me what this all stands for? Thanks for anyone’s help on this.

Welcome aboard The string reads as an Imperial Prussian or German unit and regimental designations and the last numbers of the string usually regiment and weapon number. There are some that can read that off the top of their heads but I would be guessing. If you have a pc or chromebook it would be easier to share pictures but if you select desktop mode, using the landscape icon or when clicking reply, the attachment function is more apparent. There is a thread pinned above regarding sharing images. You can also use a third party host and upload to images there and share the web addresses/urls. If all seems lost, send me the images at gcleeton@gmail.com and I'll get them put up. Put SBG Sword in the topic header and include your full name in the content. Otherwise if just wanting to have a game of blind man's bluff or twenty questions, we are going to need some other hints. Straight or curved? Dimensions? More descriptive overall but I'll run the info elsewhere. If you are on facebook, join the following group and sharing images is quite simple via mobile/android systems. www.facebook.com/groups/iascpostCheers GC

Ok, here is a thread that explains the sword. The 73 being the age/period of this Bluchersabel. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/54497/bluchersabel-1811-1939We'll see if there are more nibbles. Cheers GC An edit If we play wheel of fortune with a line from that linked thread, we have the gist of it 'This sword belonged to the unit F.M.XVIII.4.30. which was Feld-artillerie Munition colonne no 18, 4th squadron, weapon no 30.' So we have 1st Feld-artillerie Munition colonne no 2, 60th squadron, weapon no 12
