From the post, it’s not clear how the issue ended. Maybe he got a refund or the sword was delivered? Or not. We don’t know.
But it’s clear that it’s better to buy from a dealer in EU or USA. It’s not uncommon to have problems when ordering directly from China.

Thank you vidar, totally agree. I also got a few replies back from eBay sellers, and I must say I really cannot trust buying from them because their English level is just so... elementary? I'm worried they might use that against me too if the sword turned up not up to my specs, they can simply say it's due to miscommunication? Man this is so difficult!

I just noticed that Kult of Athena, another reputable vendor, has a very similar tachi. This time from Dynasty Forge, so the same as Huanuo. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=DF059&name=Dynasty+Forge+%2D+Daimyo+Tamahagane+Gold+Mon+TachiFact is that Tachi are not so popular, and more difficult to make than katana. I'm quite sure that most, if not all, Chinese forges will have some details wrong. The one of Huanuo looks very nice IMO, but from the picture you can see that the ichimonji line (first line of the ito wrap) is on the wrong side. It would be correct for a katana, but a tachi is worn on the opposite side. This is no big deal, it's only a cosmetic error, but a connoisseur will see through this kind of details that the sword is not authentic. Something completely different you could consider, depending on your budget, is to buy a bare blade from a good Chinese forge, like Huawei, and then send it to a Nihonto restorer who can make Tachi koshirae. For example Giorgio Movilli, from Italy, seems to be able to do this. www.japanese-sword.it/And then we still overlook the fact that the blade will not resemble a real tachi. You would need to ask the forge to make a blade that has the geometry of late Heian, Kamakura, Nanbokucho or early Murumachi era. But this may be mission impossible...

Hi vidar, thank you for the suggestion. With all the work required I'd really rather save a few thousands more and buy from Japan direct! Why don't they make budget swords is beyond me...

Hello vidar, I emailed the store in Holland last week and have yet to receive a reply. Are they Chinese-ran stores? Are the celebrating Chinese New Years too?

Hello, No, the shop is run by a Dutch guy. No idea why he hasn’t responded yet. You can also contact him here on the forum, his username is Klaver
