Maybe sort of influenced, i dont know... its a little bit changed design from a polish maker which was overly heavy and little refined: 5 mm stock, no distaltaper, single sided grind edge (never saw somthing like this before). Holger made some little changes and asked Purna for taper from 7 mm at the guard down to 3 mm at the "swell"; sharp edge starting at the first "curve".

The Purna-Man has received an order and started to work...
Oooh, very interesting, I was going to say something between a khukuri/sword/machete then Brother Nathaniel said "Orcrist". Anyway, this will be fantastic I am sure.
Will this be a stacked leather handle ?

The polish - or was it czech? - maker of the original design refused to try distal taper and a (i thought this was standard on most blades?) double-sided grind; so his sword is condemned to stay a renfaire prop. We like to see how that design handles and performs when done more refined.

Hoping to see some showcasing on your end when the sword arrives. I’ve gotta admit for a guy who just received two stunning swords from Purna, I’m still jealous of you. Such a gorgeous reproduction of Hadhafang, looks better even than the original in my opinion. The rose is a nice touch. 👍

Peter Lyon told me himself that he wanted to inlay the grip with actual brass/copper, but he didn't have the energy to do it after making six copies of Sting. I think Purna's inlay is excellent, and it really does enhance the look of the piece more than the film prop. It's those extra touches that count.

Thank you everyone for the kind comments, it really means a lot to me. (Wow ! To make Kane Shen a bit jealous of me... Everytime I see your videos and your pieces, I am actually the one drooling )
I totally understand Peter Lyon not wanting to do it six times. Purna did mention feeling very tired after carving the channels and cutting brass by hand...to do it six times in a row with other projects under a time limit...

Gods! Just realized he INLAYED the brass instead of painting the carvings... wow! I think i can sleep well with our project...

Dandelion This is coming together nicely ! Did you ask for a scabbard ?
Speaking of scabbard, I couldn't find a good high resolution picture of Hadhafang's sheath, notably the mouth and tip of the scabbard (didn't ask Purna to try the highly decorated "belt suspension leaves").
So I gave him free reign to do as he wished for them :
(Melting the brass)
He made something that Nepalese people really like : (definitely not Elven but I love it too...and it is surprisingly quite à propos with some of my wife's dreams )
(Crocodile mouth with handmade bone teeth with engraved fish tip )
When he told me he was making Bone teeth, I first thought : "is he a prothesist now ?"
Well, he does have many talents but he isn't planning to branch to dentistry yet.
Ready for shipping ! See you next week !

UN-BE-LIE-VEA-BLE! He just showed me your scabbard with more pics of our piece...

mrstabby: Mine gets pressed to the top as well, but that way the tip gets ground of, don't like that either. Unfortunately I'm an edge-perfectionist. Also one wrong move when unsheathing and the throat nicks the edge on either side.

AndiTheBarvarian: Perhaps I've got one from the batch for Matt Easton ?!?

AndiTheBarvarian: When I draw the saber it's automatically pressed with the spine to the scabbard so there's space for the edge to not touch the scabbard. When the false edge starts it's released but can be carefully draw completely without touching the scabbard.

AndiTheBarvarian: Too little gap for a needle, so also I see no way to get the glue in.
Mar 31, 2024 8:02:34 GMT
mrstabby: I was easily able to poke through the glue on all of my Windlass swords/daggers, then it just seems to wick in forever, it never was thick. I can't imagine how there isn't any dulling though, unless yours is less wide or the scabbard is bigger.

AndiTheBarvarian: There's not really an opening on mine, very good fit of guard and blade and some glue or epoxy in it. Since my scabbard doesn't dull the edge too I seem to be on the lucky side with Windlass this time.

mrstabby: Maybe it screams in pain now, but I like it..
Mar 30, 2024 20:35:26 GMT
mrstabby: PSA: Give your Windlass swords some superglue, they appreciate it. My 1796 drank 4g through the opening between guard and blade, now it rings much louder and vibrates much less.

AndiTheBarvarian: First you have to try getting it into!

mrstabby: What now, pulling a sword out of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Intriguing!
Mar 29, 2024 12:49:08 GMT
AndiTheBarvarian: Dwayne Johnson disagrees!
Mar 28, 2024 19:38:14 GMT
rschuch: As anyone who's seen Excalibur knows, getting the sword INTO the rock isn't the problem, it's getting it back out again.
Mar 28, 2024 19:13:13 GMT
durinnmcfurren: Movie turned out better than it had any right to be considering how many times a blade was shoved into rock. Yes, even once would be too much, but it was way more than once.

Ramses1079: Yeah me too, which is a shame because he’s a good author. I guess that’s like when your favorite band releases a new album, and there’s always one or two tracks that you’re like “what were they thinking?”
