Hi everyone, I'm new here. I have acquired this Dagger and I know nothing about it. It was given to me when a family friend passed. The only story I know is that he acquired it in Europe and apparently paid a lot of money for it... I just would like to know exactly what it is, and the significance behind it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!

Look very Moroccan. Since the scabbard is straight, maybe this would be called a genoui or janwi, but this kind of hilt is more common on koummya.

I agree with Timo that its definitely North African/ Morocco ethnographic. The style appears a bit hybridized, but that is not uncommon. As for its age and authenticity I can't exactly say for certain without more research or some authenticating paperwork. I will let you know that a lot of these kinds of things turn out to be tourist pieces of no great worth, so don't get your hopes up that you can retire off it's sale at Sootheby's. If it is indeed authentic, they aren't exactly rare either. So what's it worth? It depends on what somebody is willing to pay. Anywhere from $50 to $700 give or take with most in the $80 to $150 range. With luck, it will turn out to be a long lost family heirloom of some oil shiek who will pay any price to get it back In any event, it's a nice piece that I wouldn't mind having in my own collection.
