So I came across this piece about two years ago. I actually got my hands on it for free, as my boss was doing a sales challenge and put this piece up as the prize. Of course, anything Soviet gets my interests piqued! Alas, I'm a gunsmith, and know far less about cutlery than I probably should... And unfortunately, I still haven't had a chance to locate a clean 91/30 bayonet to replace the rusted up tent stake with. Just wondering if it's a legit piece, what it might be worth give or take, etc... Thanks!

Regrettably, it is a common fake. The castings are poor, the hammer and sickle are upside down in relation to the serial number and the lettering around the star is just jibberish using the Latin alphabet instead of Cyrillic as you would expect on a Russian item.

Yep, I was kind of expecting that because of the latin characters where one would expect cyrillics. Glad I paid nothing for the piece, and it will make me feel far less bad about stabilizing the wobbly grip.
