So in the next couple of months I want to have Purna make me another sword, but not sure what I want to have made. I'm thinking of 2 items, a Spatha or a Xiphos. What do you think?

I'm going to post a review of his spatha sometime tomorrow, with photos and a few videos. I think you'll be thrilled with a spatha he makes, but my curiosity about what kind of xiphos he would make is such that I have to root for you to go that way. I have quite a few reference materials on the xiphos, so if you want to pick my brain, let me know.

Yes I will definitely be in touch with you if I go the route of the Xiphos, I own the devils edge one and I really like it but want another one this time more custom with a 24inch blade I'm thinking as the DE one only has a 20 inch blade.

I went with the Xiphos as it seems like it's the natural progression at this point.
I would ask him for a satin polish, I have spoken to him about this and I would love to see the result.

I am working on building a xiphos right now, actually. I have the blade and I am completing the polishing. It's a sort of fantasy xiphos, but a xiphos nonetheless. I consulted with MOK on the design.

I forgot to mention maybe a Falcata as well as I don't have one of those.

An accurate Greek xiphos is a complicated sword design. The Deepeeka version was designed with assistance by Matt Amt and although a bit simplified it's pretty good. Here are some of the few artifacts we have. Note that notch in the middle of the cross guard, that's to get it to sit in the scabbard properly.

Awesome thanks for the references, I'm going todo a Xiphos eventually, but went this time with a Falcata design for the time.

I'm going for a predominantly wood hilt/grip design on my xiphos build.

I have a Kopis from Purna and I love it, but I don't know about asking him to make one of these.

Yes, mostly wood, rather like a bronze age sword.

Unless I can source the bronze I want... There is no bronze on the extent Greek xiphos artifacts that I am aware of. The cross guards are iron. I'd be happy to be wrong as I love bronze. There is a funky small bronze xiphos out there in a museum, but it is from a sculpture. Several bronze hilted xiphos reproductions are floating about using it as a model, but wood is a better option if that is what is available. Let me find that little xiphos picture... Here's the little guy. I had a replica made of this, but it's just repro of a piece of art...not a repro of real sword.

I believe that bottom art piece is the one then that windlass had used as a basis for their bronze handled piece? I love that sword lol

I should clarify that the piece I am working on is not a strict historical reproduction. It has the same construction methodology as the historical swords, a similar profile as the original swords, but it's basically a fantasy piece. I'm trying to produce it within some historical parameters, hence why I'd like to use bronze, because it was in use during this period. The hilt/grip I am going for is more like what one would find on a bronze age sword, not iron age xiphoi. Again, it's basically a fantasy piece.

This is kind of what I am going for now in terms of my collection, I am going with semi-fantasy and/or historically plausible type items. I think this opens us up to really create some special stuff.
